I think reading a lot of stuff in good English will help you significantly improve. I divided my outside reading into two categories:
1) Twitter
2) GMAT Fiction (~2000 pages in a month)

Twitter - If you already have one account on twitter, create another "unsocial" one. Use the unsocial twitter account to follow magazines like Wall Street Journal, The Economist, New York Times, Financial Times, Forbes etc etc. There are two benefits here. First, you will read articles written by journalist who use appropriate English that will help you improve your Verbal skills. Second, you will have access to breaking news and interesting insights regarding various topics and help you stay updated with the financial world.

GMAT Fiction - By soaking up hundreds of pages you will develop an ear of what sounds right and what does not. In addition, you will also get better at reading tough English grammar, structure and gain a valuable stamina. The material you should read does not limit to what is recommended in the GMAT Fiction topic but make sure you get books written in good English. Finally, make sure you read the book in front of the computer to have a quick access to the meaning of the words you do not understand. When I used a hardcopy of a dictionary I sometimes forgot what I was reading because it too me some time to find the word

Sorry to hear that. You do need to bring up your verbal. Your quant is fine so bringing up your verbal will be critical.

Of the GMAT verbal sections, SC is the easiest to improve so you should take full advantage of this opportunity. Most likely, the difference between where you are and where you want to be is just a few tweaks in the way you think and approach test questions.

RC is probably the section that will take the longest time to improve. These RC videos may help.

Some people recommend reading the NY Times. While that may be beneficial in the long run, it's unlikely that reading NYTimes will actually help boost your score in a few weeks. Focus on keywords in the passage so you know when you should really pay attention and when you can "skim" parts of a paragraph. This is almost an art rather than a science and takes time to develop.

Would be glad to help, but need details on your verbal preps first.

Which books and courses did you use for verbals?

What were your practice scores?

What were your key weaknesses?

Thanks

Santanu

I used

Would be glad to help, but need details on your verbal preps first?

For Verbal.

SC--->Manhattan SC (only PART-1 and not Advanced part)

CR---->CR bible

RC----->Not much of practice(reading 3-4 articles from Economist, wall street journals)

For Quant

Manhattan

What were your practice scores?

I used to average between 600-640, I always couldn't finish my exam on time and so i could just guess last 5-6 questions, and indeed in my Actual Gmat exam i Guessed last 4 questions in Quant and last 10 questions in verbal and that effected my score. when i wrote Manhattan Gmat practice tests setting time(Quant 100 min's and Verbal 90 min) i was able to crack almost all the questions and averaged between 680-700, so basically my first problem is completing exam in time, so i need few time management strategies.

What were your key weaknesses?

Verbal
CR, RC

Quant
DS

can you advise on my prep on both verbal on Quant please....

dont give up dude!
1)Just try to relive theose exam moments and focus on what went wrong that day.
2)Make note of our weaknesses in an excel sheet.
3)divide them into content-related,strategy,psychology related.
4)make a weekly plan and work on each weakness one at atime. You can ceratinly improve!

Just as GMAT Pill said, stuff that you read outside of the GMAT will help you but in the long term. If you have 2-3 weeks until the test than outside readings are unlikely to have an impact. But if you plan to take the test in 2 months you can definitely improve by reading a lot of stuff.

By the way, my strategy for Verbal is as follows: Goal is to be really quick in SC and CR sections so you get ample amount of time for the RC passages. There are many good strategies on how to tackle RC but when I analyzed my results, I realized that I do best when I take around 5-6 minutes just for reading the passage. It is a lot of time but it is doable.
