At a club - Before midnight, the ratio of men to total people entering the club is 3/5 - After midnight, the ratio of men to total people entering the club is 2/3
Let’s keep it simple and say - before midnight – 3 men came - after midnight – 2 men came
why is THIS not the overall average ? - total men = 3 men + 2 men = 5 men - total people = 5 people + 3 people = 8 people
average of men / total = 5/ 8 (or 62.5 %)
actual average of men / total is 63.333 % (if you use teeter totter means)
Why this difference ?

why is THIS not the overall average ? - total men = 3 men + 2 men = 5 men - total people = 5 people + 3 people = 8 people
Why can't it be: - before midnight – 3 men came out of 5 total - after midnight – 4 men came out of 6 total
- total men = 3 men + 4 men = 7 men - total people = 5 people + 6 people = 11 people
average of men / total = 7 / 11 (or 63.63 %)
_______
Since the ratio of the total people who came before midnight and after midnight is not known, we cannot answer this question
