I totally agree that "Buy it and leave it alone" makes no sense, unless they bought it at a crazy steep discount.

At a minimum, I'd expect Kaplan to start running MGMAT courses out of Kaplan centers in the cities where they overlap. That would let them immediately reap cost savings -- Kaplan's centers represent mostly fixed costs -- while not changing anything else. The question there is whether doing that would start to blur the two brands in consumers' minds. (We've debated it both ways at Veritas Prep HQ.)

Kaplan has also said that they're launching their "new GMAT course" on January 21... One would think these two things are at least somewhat related.

Wild Guess: Kaplan or the Washington Post company invested in Zeke's new venture - much respect to the idea. Sale of MGMAT was part of the deal.

I wish them well, but this is a really strange decision by MGMAT. There is obviously more to the story.

No serious company depends on one founder, one person, so Andrew's story doesn't add up. :roll:
