Hello everyone,
I gave my GMAT exam yesterday and scored 620 that I wasn’t expecting at all. I started my preperation in Jan this year and prepared for around 4 months. On weekdays I was studying for around 1-2 hours and on weekend i was dedicating 3-4 hours to study. Started practicing official problems and analizing mistakes after finishing MGMAT guides for quant and verbal. When I finished my guides and practiced few problems, I gave official gmat mock test without AWA and IR and scored 660. I was quite happy with the score because i still had around 1 month for the actual test. I kept on practicing more official problems everyday and giving manhattan and official mocks every week till test date. Consistently I was scoring around 660 is all my mocks except the last mock in which I scored 620 that I gave just one week before the exam. I thought may be I just didn’t do well on this latest mock that’s why I couldn’t get a good score. One test day I was quite confident to get a score around 670 but somehow it didn’t go well and I scored mere 620. I was shocked to see the score and wasn’t sure what exactly happened.
GMAT exam:
Quant: 46 (In mocks I was getting 49 easily)
Verbal: 30 (In mocks I was getting around 33 mostly)
IR: 7
Overall: 620
Now I am back on track to prepare again and my goal is to get 700+ atleast. I am planning to sit for gmat again in about a month. But I’m not sure how to devise my study plan this time to achieve my target score.
Can any expert assist me in this regard to get my target score in a given time frame?
I would highly appreciate your help

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
1) How long have you studied in total? Over the last 4 months, how many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used overall the course of ALL of your studies? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
If you took your GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

A score of 620 is decent and a target score of 700+ seems realistic.
Keep your motivation high.
Also, with my GMAT tutoring, guidance, and counseling experience, we have to accept a fact with a pinch of salt that diagnostic/ mock test scores are above then what one should expect in a real test. There is often dropping in the score. Some students have even experienced a drop of 100 pointers. It is one of the realities, and your preparation should not sideline this fact.
A couple of things that can be a noticeable barrier to your scores would be some or all of the below.
• Inefficiency by using time-consuming Conventional method to tackle DS and PS questions still
• No expert support (maybe) who can tutor, analyze, and guide you during your learning especially on hard-level questions while stably hitting middle-level questions.
• Lack of many updated questions and practice in the recent exam trend
• Not well aligned with time to solve questions.
We would recommend you make a note of various possible combinations of your target score. The possible scores will help you track your performance after taking the mock or practice test. It will also help you maintain balance in both the sections, and you will always be in a great position to allot the study hours to a specific area accordingly.
The possible score combinations for 700 or 700+: Q should be Q 46, 47, 48, and V should be V38, 39, 40.
