Good Evening,
I am scheduled to take the GMAT on 8/18 (in 5 days) and have been studying for the past couple of months.
I started taking Kaplan practice exams about a month ago with the following results:
Kaplan 1: 620 (41Q, 41V, 6 IR) July 21
Kaplan 2: 680 (49Q, 37V, 5 IR) July 25
Kaplan 3: 690 (49Q, 38V, 7 IR) July 26
Kaplan 4: 710 (50Q, 40V, 5 IR) August 1
Kaplan 5: 730 (50Q, 44V, 7 IR) August 2 Final Kaplan practice exam, finished feeling great
I then bought the 7 pack of Veritas Prep tests last week to take in my final two weeks of prep to hopefully stay sharp.
Veritas 1: 620 (43Q, 33V, 5 IR) August 6
Veritas 2: 640 (43Q, 35V, 6 IR) August 8
Veritas 3: 650 (44Q, 35V, 6 IR) August 9
Veritas 4: 640 (43Q, 35V, 6 IR) August 10
I have 5 more days until the test and I am feeling a bit lost on what to do next.
Any thoughts on why I have such a lower score when taking the Veritas tests?
Should I take the other 3 Veritas tests that I have left?
What can I do to get the scores I was getting on the Kaplan tests, vice the Veritas tests? Can I just send GMAC a print screen of my Kaplan 5 test!!!?

Hi alkinga,
First off, taking so many CATs in such a short period of time is NOT a good idea (CATs should be taken about once per week). Since your GMAT is in 5 days, I suggest that you NOT take any more CATs. You'd be better served doing light review and some additional practice (and going into Test Day well-rested) than trying to cram in 3 more CATs.
Have you had a chance to review any of these last few CATs? Can you define WHY you were getting questions wrong? How often was it because of a silly/little mistake and how often was it because the question was just too hard? At this scoring 'level', the GMAT becomes really 'sensitive' to little mistakes, so making too many (especially at inopportune points during the Exam) can cause a significant score drop.
Since you don't have enough lead-time to reschedule this GMAT, you should plan to take it as scheduled. You might still score 700+, but that will depend on the precision in your work.

I have reviewed each CAT before taking the next.
Initially, on Kaplan tests I noticed that sentence correction was, by far, my weakest subject. I spent about a week and a half working on that aspect and was able to see a substantial improvement on my final 2 Kaplan tests. After this I moved to try to build my Quant score, which was always lower than my verbal.
For my last CAT, in the quat section I got 9 of the 37 questions incorrect:
3 of these wrong answers were from not recognizing how to solve the problem
6 were silly mistakes, with the majority coming from not fully using the information provided in the question stem
I have the full weekend now to do my final prep for the exam. What do you recommend I do, review incorrect answers from past tests? I also saved a GMAT Prep CAT to take this weekend to get a close approximation of the exam, do you recommend I skip this as well?
Understanding that variation in score can be expected. I was just very surprised to see the large decrease as soon as I switched to the other brand of CATs. Is one considered more realistic? I feel Veritas does not do a good job of varying difficulty commensurate with performance on the test, early quant questions (in the first 4 given) have often been the most difficult.
I noticed a large difference in the Kaplan CATs from the Veritas CATs, most significantly in the IR section. Veritas seems to have a lot of Problem Solving questions that they ask for multiple answers, by giving a word problem that generates an equation with multiple variables and asking to select from a list what terms could, together, form the solution. While Kaplan seemed to have 3 to 4 questions each test that were answered from multiple different pieces of data, an email chain or a page of text followed by 2 pages of data. Is one more realistic to the actual GMAT?
