Hi,
On the
Manhattan prep guide, it is written that gerunds can be parallel to other gerunds and action nouns but never to plain nouns?
However, numerous nouns are action nouns: fall, collapse, formation, failure, etc..
Also,
Magoosh instructors say that simple gerunds can never be parallel to nouns, while complex gerunds can basically be parallel to any ordinary/plain noun. However, making complex gerunds parallel would be "awkward"?
I am confused.
1. What are the parallelism rules of
gerunds (both complex and simple) and how does it relate to plain nouns and action nouns?
2. If an answer choice on the GMAT has a complex gerund parallel to a plain noun, should I cross out that answer choice because it is "awkward"?
3. How can I know if a noun is an action noun or not (because it seems to me that most of them are)?
