Hello everyone!
I have finished my MA in International Studies (track: International Commerce) last year and I am currently working as a Business Development Manager.
Nevertheless, my dream is to become a professor so I am starting to prepare to do a PhD (intake Fall 2021) however I am very torn on what PhD to go for and I was wondering if you could give me some tips for brainstorming.
My background:
• Undergraduate (in Europe): Economics and Business
• Undergraduate thesis: comparison between the South Korean IMF crisis and Japan’s Lost Decade
• Master (in East Asia): International Commerce
• Graduate thesis: the wine market in Japan and South (basically a market analysis of the current market and future perspectives for European suppliers)
Interests: global business development, Asian economic development, Asian economy history, trade relations between Europe and Asia
I am kinda stuck because I am not sure what it would be better for me? A PhD in business, economics, or international studies? I also feel like it’s very difficult for me to find professors that study what I am actually interested in?
I even thought that East Asian Studies could be a choice but all of EAS PhD focus on humanities.
Thank you!
Posted from my mobile devicePh.D. in business is very broad; you need to narrow down. I feel the same is the case with a Ph.D. in economics or international studies. I guess you will have to find the answer to this question by yourself. How can someone else tell you what are your interests? I could only say start reading papers in these areas and see what interests you more.
