Conservation officers justified their decision to remove a pack of ten coyotes from a small island by claiming that the coyotes, which preyed on wild cats and plover, were decimating the plover population and would soon wipe it out. After the coyotes were removed, however, the plover population plummeted dramatically, and within two years plover could no longer be found on the island.

Which one of the following would, if true, most help explain the phenomenon described above?

The bolded portion says that this is a resolve the paradox question. So, we have to explain why the plover population plummeted and then vanished within two years.

(A) Plover are ground-nesting birds, which makes them easy prey for coyotes.______________this cannot be the reason for the decrease in plover population since coyotes has already been removed.

(B) Wild cat and plover populations tend to fluctuate together.____________________this is not explaining anything related.

(C) Coyotes are not susceptible to any of the diseases that commonly infect plover or wild cats.___________coyotes are already gone. But this option is still talking about these.

(D) The wild cat population on the island was once significantly larger than it is currently._________really ..! who cares about the wild cat population in the past and present...it has nothing to do with the plover population

(E) The coyotes preyed mainly on wild cats, and wild cats prey on plover. -------------This says that coyotes preyed on wildcats and since coyotes were removed the wild cats population has been increased and preyed on plovers. This explains everything.
