OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Constructive dialogue is one of the fundamentals that are too uncommon in the scientific world and although the representation of data across fields is very similar, it is, however, rare that professionals from different disciplines share thoughts with one another.

A. are too uncommon in the scientific world and although the representation of data across fields is very similar, it is, however, rare that professionals from different disciplines share thoughts with one another.

Incorrect.

Both Although and however describe an opposition relationship between the two parts of the sentence, and you only need one opposition conjunction to express that relationship, so using both is redundant.

What helps you identify this Redundancy is the following Stop Sign:

Though/Although/Even though/Despite/In spite of... later followed by but/yet/however/still/nevertheless

B. are to uncommon in the scientific world and although the data representation across fields is very similar, it is rare, however, that professionals from different disciplines share thoughts with one another.

Incorrect.

This answer choice repeats the original Redundancy. Both Although and however describe an opposition relationship between the two parts of the sentence, and you only need one opposition conjunction to express that relationship, so using both is redundant.

C. is too uncommon in the scientific world and although the representation of data across fields is very similar, it is rare that professionals from different disciplines share their thoughts with one another

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original Redundancy error by not using two opposition conjunctions to describe a relationship between the two parts of the sentence, it is grammatically incorrect. The relative clause that is too uncommon in the scientific world describes the noun that appears immediately before it, namely, fundamentals. Since fundamentals is plural, the verb that follows it also needs to be plural. However, is is singular.

What helps you identify this question as a Relative Clause question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign:

one of the + plural noun + who/which/that

Whenever you see this Stop Sign, make sure that the following verb is plural.

D. are too uncommon in the scientific world and although the representation of data across fields is very similar, it is rare that professionals share thoughts with those from different disciplines.

This answer choice corrects the original Redundancy by using only one conjunction (although) to represent the relationship between the two parts of the sentence.

E. are too uncommon in the scientific world and although the representation of data fields is very similar, it is rare that professionals from different disciplines share thoughts with one another.

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original Redundancy error by not using two negation conjunctions to describe a relationship between the two parts of the sentence, it changes the meaning of the original sentence by omitting the word across in the phrase the representation of data fields. It is not data fields that are represented but instead data from a variety of fields.
