Contrary to anthropologists' predictions, the size of remaining hunter-gatherer societies has not decreased in recent decades. Yet even though deforestation and the disappearance of traditional food sources have continued, the size of hunter-gatherer societies over the last ten years has increased by more than 5 percent over the previous ten years' levels.
