I have seen so many people lately getting rejected and disappointed for the same.
Let me tell you a SECRET.
THE SECRET NO B-SCHOOL WILL EVER TELL YOU.
To get into a B-School, with a 50% chance of getting in, you must be in the range of the current entering class profile, above it would be better. If in over represented pool, go up in terms of everything.
THE B-SCHOOLS LIE
No no no
Don't sue me just yet.
By lie, I mean hiding the truth with clever usage of word.
The most cliche line, "Holistic evaluation" doesn't just mean extra curriculars and academics.
Now comes the extra into play
According to Harvard Business Review, "A man whose ancestry (family background)lies in business and have a business of their own is more likely to start up than a man who doesn't"
Why did I say that...?
If you're a guy who wants to pursue an Entrepreneurship program, almost every B-School will try to look at that fact.
Solution?
Nothing. You have to show that you're a business man by starting up if you don't fit in that. Simple as that
In my Entrepreneurship program, I learnt that chain Entrepreneurs who keep pursuing Entrepreneurship (creating business) are more likely to get investment from Angel investors than other.
Reason?
They have less chance of failure.
Don't the B-schools know that?
They do
So instead of blindly following a Class Statistics, follow these principles.
Harvard will most likely accept a man with 19 patents, 10 small start ups, and a 700 GMAT than a man with 760 and only 3-4 years of work ex.
There are people like that.
Now coming to Collaboration.
Harvard doesn't promote it. Collaboration is mutual respect and therefore common sense, not a rocket science. A simple principle of "Maintaining integrity and self respect while also understanding others' opinions". If you do that, that's enough for being collaborative.
Harvard wants people with Flexible leadership style. Yes, even the authoritative one. You would be surprised to know how collaboration can fail if one man doesn't stand up and makes other follow his vision during a crisis. Authoritative leaders are the leaders of crisis. They can get you out of an outbreak.
But it's best to be flexible.
Rich people are more likely to get into HSW.
Bizarre as it may sound, a study by idk who has shown that HSW, the holy trinity has more inclination towards rich Students.
Reason?
You want money... To run the Bschool
Alumni giving is an important source for scholarships.
They know it. You should know it too.
I cannot assure you an admission. They sometimes take in a normal candidate to make sure that the pattern cannot be recognized. But who do the B-schools think they're fooling?
We're business leaders, if we can't predict such a small thing.... Then I would really sit at home than work.
So if you're being rejected.... They are losing you, you're not Losing them.
Know that Bschools are looking for someone extraordinary. 2% people of the world.
Jack Ma got rejected from HBS and his company slapped them in the face.
STUDENTS MAKE B-SCHOOLS, B-SCHOOLS DON'T MAKE STUDENTS.
If anyone got offended by the truth. I'm sorry, I've just used the facts and connected a few dots, that's all. Besides, "FREE SPEECH".
