As another data point, I don't know anything about Stern's culture, but Cornell's tiny student body and relative geographic isolation creates a very close-knit community. I don't know if Stern has that commuter school feel that some of the other big-city schools have, but I think if it does, that's a pretty significant difference in the experience you'd have.

The community at Stern is very strong, given the limits that you rightly add Aau. It will be a very different experience from a University town though. Most people are downtown, and commuters (not Bridge and Tunnel!) are few, and are often people with families etc. There is a lot of hanging around with people, and as class isn't too huge, there is always a lot going on within the school community (parties nearly every free night).

As mentioned above, the strength it has relative to Cornell in banking is a clear win, if that is what you want to do.

The cost side it is always going to lose. By a long way.

I am not interested in hardcore i-banking, but thinking about either PE or either Private Wealth Management (most likely leaning towards it), though they are far from each other. I have no Banking background and I am a Consultant, so I am looking to make a career switch. How about the international placements and recognition? I know that both are similarly ranked schools but again rankings are not everything.....

I think both schools will be great for PE and Wealth Management. Have you visited either of the schools? I am sure the feel of each school is different, and to me personally, fit is very important. I think Cornell as an Ivy School has a great international recognition. As far as Stern goes, i can't really comment as I live in the U.S.
