The drill is to restate the given statement in the form of its equivalent IF P then Q statement(s) (which we all should understand by now).. Each statement should have either 2 or 4 equivalent statements in IF P THEN Q form. I believe this is a vital skill for performing well in CR and something that is not taught widely.
Here is a starter.
#1
IF Mark gets the loan THEN his company will be successful
IF Mark's company is NOT successful THEN he did not get the loan.
#2
IF Ken goes THEN John must have be allowed to go
IF John is not allowed to go THEN Ken will not go
What is the difference between 1. If P then Q & 2. Q if and only if P.
Any layman explanation would be greatly appreciated!
The difference is if P then Q, given Q we don't know anything about P.
However, P if and only if Q implies that If P then Q AND if Q then P.
For example.
If I am a man then I am a human.
BUT if I am a human, then I am not necessarily a man.
However,
If I am alive if and only if I am breathing of my own free will.
means the IF, then works both ways
If I am alive then I am breathing of my own free will.
If I am breathing of my own free will then I am alive.
