I thought 'numbers of' is incorrect English. Is 'The numbers of' correct?
I am not looking for the answer to this question...its pretty obvious. But wanted to check the idiom - numbers of - anyone?

The numbers of .......is not wrong in English. I googled and found this on one of the site
However, the global celebrations are being overshadowed by a series of recent reports indicating that the numbers of migratory birds are declining globally.
In such cases u have 2 take care that with 'numbers' , one shld use 'are' as in example above and also in ur question
