I`m also with (B) here. Whales and boats often collide with each other, and this may be one of the key causes (other than poor navigation).

How it could be B????
I believe this is D.

Lets negate B.
When disoriented, propoises are MORE likely to be killed by other boats. Then it means the lives are not being saved. But the premise that low number of propoises are caught in the company's net stil holds and it means lives are still saved. If the company had not installed the alarms then more propoises would have been killed. This means alarms are atleast saving lives of some propoises.

Now lets negate D.
The alarms were installed at the time of year when propoises were LESS plentiful. This means the low number of propoises caught in the company's net are not due to alarms and alarms are not saving life. Argument fails.

B for me.

My Reasoining :
We want to protect something.
So we want to make sure that if something doesnt get killed by us ...then it doesnt get killed by any one else.

If B is not true, the argument falls apart.

ps_dahiya, you make very logical arguments..Have you taken the GMAT already? If not, I am pretty sure you will score above 700.. :)

however, I think it is B

Argument : acoustic alarms saves the lives of porpoises
evidence: less porpoises on the nets

assumption: porpoises are not killed by other means/boats leading to less porpoises in the net (because of the alarm)

B for me.
Only one company equipped with alarm device can't help other fishing company catching porpoises. It means that the alarms device are not "saving" the lives of porpoises.
