The high level of violence in television

as an explanation for the increasing level
of violence in our society. And, in fact,
some recent studies show that the level of
violence in television programming has
increased considerably over the past
twenty years. However, other recent
studies indicate that the level, while high,
is only slightly greater than it was twenty
years ago.
Which of the following, if true, would
provide the best explanation for the
discrepancy among the recent studies cited
in the argument above?
A. Numerous studies of television
violence have been conducted since
the advent of television, and their
results have not always been in
agreement.
B. All of those involved in conducting
the cited studies shared the same
perception of what constitutes
“violence” in television programming.
C. Television programming designed
specifically for children accounts for a
greater portion of television programming
today than it did twenty years
ago.
D. Many factors other than violence in
television programming carry a
significant impact on the level of
violence in society.
E. Over the last twenty years, the level of
violence in television programming
has increased more than in society as
a whole.
can somebody explain this question! OA is A.
All I can say is that options (B) to (E) are all irrelevant/do not explain the paradox. Option (A) doesn't explain the discrepancy either. All it says is that such studies have not been in agreement. It doesn't explain you why they are not in agreement which the question requires. You need to explain why the discrepancy occurs. Just saying that discrepancies occur in all such studies is hardly satisfactory.
We need to compare the two studies on 'violence in television programming' so any option that compares 'violence in society' with 'violence on tv' is out. So ignore (D) and (E). (B) suggests that results of all studies should be similar and (C) suggests that violence today should be lower assuming children's programs are not violent.
So no option is satisfactory.
