After agonizing over the choice between D & E, I chose E.
Isn't it a flaw to assume that this knowledge cannot be obtained by other means?? Any thoughts?

hm ? ok maybe there is no flaw in A) because the arg says thst full appreciation comes after many years. so its fine to conclude that only seasoned or older ppl can judge talented players because only seasoned ppl live long enough to have this experience. what about D) ? at the beginning the author mentions all aspects of soccer. in this context he enumerates rules and technicalities as well as full appreciation. so in his opinion these characteristics belong to "understand all aspects of soccer". but "appreciation" is a term to define perceptions. its more a subjective term. thats why D) might be right.

"mentors" are out of scope so E can't be right.

Guess you're right. In retrospection, concept of mentors does sound 'far out' .

I know I am answering late in the game, but I chose D, before confirming the answer.

Here is my reasoning.

The first part of the premise states that one needs to have a good understanding of Soccer. The second part of the premise states that a good appreciation is acquired by ...... The author draws the conclusion by assuming that understanding equals appreciation. Only D reveals this flaw perfectly.
