I’m confused about this Strengthen question and would appreciate some clarity.
Here is the argument (paraphrased):
A company claims that introducing flexible work hours increased employee productivity. Therefore, they conclude that flexible hours directly cause higher productivity.
The correct answer is given as (D), but I was strongly tempted by (B).
(B) says that most employees prefer flexible schedules. (D) says that during the same period, no other major policy changes were made.
I chose (B) because it seems to support the idea that employees are happier and therefore more productive.
However, the official explanation says (D) is better.
My questions:
• Why doesn’t (B) strengthen the argument enough? • What makes (D) clearly stronger here? • How can I avoid falling for options like (B) in future?
Any detailed explanation would be really helpful.
Thanks!
