Dear experts,
AndrewN ,
EMPOWERgmatVerbal ,
MartyTargetTestPrep I was able to eliminate options C and D because they do not follow
X rather than Y parallelism structure. In option C, the structure is
'preposition' rather than 'relative clause' and in option D, the structure is
'preposition' rather than 'verb-ing form'.
But for options A, B, and E, they have
'preposition' than 'preposition' parallelism form.
So how do I select the right answer now? What am I missing here?
Regards,
Romil.
Hello, Romil. This is really a parallelism question more than anything else. Look at those answer choices again through such a lens:
Vercules
Critics contend that the new missile is a weapon whose importance is largely symbolic, more a tool
for manipulating people's perceptions than to fulfill a real military need.
(A)
for manipulating people's perceptions than
to fulfill(B)
for manipulating people's perceptions than
for fulfilling(C)
to manipulate people's perceptions rather than
that it fulfills(D)
to manipulate people's perceptions rather than
fulfilling(E)
to manipulate people's perceptions than
for fulfillingNow, you could see an infinitive
to manipulate paired with a later
to fulfill, but of course, that is not an option. Not that parallelism should be your primary concern in SC, but at the same time, you want to choose parallel answers as often as possible, and this set of answer choices presents four easy targets to eliminate.
I hope that helps. Thank you for thinking to ask me.
