It's a couple of hours since I got the unofficial score report in my hands and I'm extremely relieved.
I should share my story since GMATClub is the main reason why I reached perfection in the Quantitative section (Q51-97%) and I've been helped and have stayed focused and motivated by reading some debriefs.
To start with, I'm a 22 year-old graduate with a B.Sc. in Economics. Decided to start preparing for the GMAT last year when I aimed at some major European Bizz schools in order to continue my studies on a M.Sc. level.
I started scoring almost in the low 40's in Quant without any preparation so this gave me a strong feeling that Quant will end up at high 40's or even 50's.
In Verbal though, being a non-native speaker I was struggling to hit the high 20's, especially RC was my major problem.
I started preparing using
OG and Kaplan 800 book. Though, I barely improved in Quant to 42-43 and stucked at the same scores in Verbal.
Took the GMAT at 29th of May and scored a devestating 600(Q44,V27). Though, I knew that Quant wasn't going as expected, Verbal was a true devestation. 0 improvement in almost 2 and a half months. I was totally de-motivated at this time, and I told myself I'm never gonna take the GMAT exam again.
Until late September, when I decided to give it a try.
Purchased the following books, for which I will give a mini review:
Quantitative:1) Total GMAT Math : This book is quite nice as it summarizes all the basics from the concepts tested on the GMAT (Number properties,Statistics, Geometry,Rates etc.) , but I think that this book is for a starter or for someone who wants to get familiarized with GMAT Quantitative concepts. It is not suggested to someone (like me) who wants to get from mid 40's to high 40's.
2)
MGMAT Advanced GMAT Quant : This book is quite good. It analyzes some strategies that a test taker might use in times when it is not possible to actually solve the question. It also provides a bunch of problem sets with very difficult questions. It also gives access to 6 CATs from
MGMAT and I think that the price (approx. 20-22$) is good for what it provides you.
3)
OG Quant Review: A must book for all test-takers. At the end of the day it's the GMAT exam you take so you have to get familiarized with questions suggested by GMAC.
Verbal:1)
MGMAT CR : This was also a nice book to read. It covers all concepts on CR with useful explanations.
2) POWERSCORE RC: Nice book, powerscore is a thrill for Verbal books.
3) POWERSCORE SC: Same holds true here, nice book, covering all concepts but I have to say it could have been better.
4)
OG Verbal Review.
Practice Tests:
1) GMATprep 2 free exams + I purchased Exam Pack 1.
2) Kaplan pack of 5 CATs.
3)
MGMAT 6 CATs.
4) GMATClub Quant tests.
My individual scores on Quant and Verbal differ from what I got on practice tests during my preparation.
Some of the tests scores mentioned below:
Kaplan 1: 700(Q49,V36)
Kaplan 2: 690 (Q49,V35)
MGMAT 1: 700 (Q48,V38)
MGMAT 2: 710 (Q48,v39)
GMATprep 1: 660 (Q48,V34)
GMATprep 2: 690(Q49,V35)
I have Never scored higher than Q49 in GMATPrep's exams but I was really confident because of the high quant score on
MGMAT tests which were really tough.
And now a part dedicated to this site GMATClub:
This is the main reason why I made it up to 700s.
I am sure that it is GMATClub that help me reach that 51 in Quant.
Bunuel should go for president. You won't find any better explanations than his.
GMATClub's tests are pure gold. You have got to take them all, if you want to ensure that you score high in Quant.
Do not be discouraged if you get a 48 or 49 on GMATClubs tests. I never scored above 49.
[Notes]:1. DO give basis to OG questions and GMATPrep tests since these are the only perfect indicators of what you will do in the test day.
2. Do not be discouraged if you score relatively low in MGMAT tests, especially in Quant. From my personal experience, one is approximmately 2-3 points lower in the MGMAT Cat than in GMATPrep.
3. What matters the most is your condition in the test day. Be focused and fresh.
4. Personally, before I went to the test center I did some questions (mainly SC, then DS or PS and then CR) in order to warm up. I believe it was crucial in order to not miss any of the first 10 questions (which I think I did).[Update] :Got my ESR today and I don't want to mention the Verbal analysis because it was awful.
91% SC, 47% RC, 39% CR.
While my RC was always between 45 and 65 percentile, my CR was never so low, in fact I was mainly scoring arround 75 percentile.
I'm angry because a 75% in CR would have probably get me to V37 or V38 which means 730-740.
Anyway, I was surprised to see that I DOMINATED the Quantitative section.
I got correct the first 33 questions and I think that I only did one mistake in Quant.
I would like some help if someone can figure it out from the graph.
