Cryptic letter?!

Question

Does this mean I'm W/L...I'm confused! I already had my interview where they grilled me about having no work exp....though my GPA and GMAT are bother much higher than the school's average

The Fisher College of Business MBA Admission Committee has reviewed your application for the Autumn Quarter, 2008. The committee has decided to consider your application among the larger pool of applicants and defer a final decision. All final decisions will be made on or before May 31st. We will inform you as soon as poosible should your app status change.

As you know, admission into the MbA program is very competetive, and decisions are very difficult to make....and goes on to give email address to send any updated info.

It just means they're waiting until on or before May 31 to give you a decision. Not a waitlist...you are still an undecided.

Let me disagree. I think it is a WL, however the wording is ambiguous indeed. Waitlisted candidates' apps are usually reviewed together with the next round applicants' apps - hence "among the larger pool" remark.

The letter reads as an 'undecided.' The wailtlist is essentially a ding, with a maybe. The undecided is taking another look at your application compared with the entire applicant pool.

Of course, their intent and what they actually write can be two different things or one and the same.

Contact the adcom! Find out! Maybe while you're on the phone, you could sweetly ask if there was something you could do to strengthen your application...

in terms of semantics....sounds like deferred admission process to me. If it was W/L, they would have used the magic in phrase, "strong app but need to place among RX applicants."...

Not a bad thing... this does not look like waitlist to me where your file has already been reviewed..

but waitlist and deferred admissions sometimes tend to be very similar...

Contact the school and clarify..

or is it something like what UCLA did... due too too many apps.. they are taking their time to review the application and therefore will give decisions later..
