Daily temperatures were recorded for a certain period of time. Did at least 17 days record a temperature that was lower than the average temperature for the entire period?
(1) The sum total of all temperatures recorded was 18 times the average of all temperatures recorded in the period
(2) Exactly two-thirds of temperatures recorded were higher than the average value for the entire period
I chose option E. I am not sure whether OA is correct. Can anybody confirm whether answer should be E?
Average temperature = sum total of all temperatures/total number of days-------------------------------1)
st.1 18.Average temperature = sum total of all temperatures, using 1) we have total number of days =18
st.2 Insufficient as we need to know about the total number of days.
st.1 + st.2 we know total number of days =18 , thus total number of days for which recorded temperature was lower than average = \(\frac{18}{3}\)
=6 which answer the original question as no
hence sufficient.
