How would you solve?

In the xy-coordinate plane, the slope of line L is 3/4. Does line L pass through the point (-2/3, 1/2)?

(1) Line L passes through the point (4,4)
(2) Line L passes through the point (-4,-2)

It will be much faster if you know this formula:
y - y1 = m(x - x1) where m = slope, and (x1,y1) is the coordinate:

Question: m=3/4, (-2/3, 1/2)
y - 1/2 = 3/4 * (x - (-2/3))
y - 1/2 = 3x/4 + 1/2
y = 3x/4 + 1 {This is the base equation to check on (1) and (2)

Info (1). Line pass (4,4)
let x = 4; y = 3(4)/4 + 1 = 3+1 = 4 True. Therefore (1) SUFF.

Info (2). Line pass (-4,-2)
let x = -4; y = 3(-4)/4 + 1= -3 + 1 = -2 True, Therefor (2) SUFF.

(D) as well.

To have an equation of a Line and thus to verify whether one point is on a line, we need either:
> 2 points on the line
or
> 1 point and a slope

So, looking well on the question and the 2 statments, we have always the slope and 1 point on L. Thus, without calculation, we can already conclude that we have enough information.
