Data Sufficiency is a question type that is unique to the GMAT, so most Test Takers need time to learn the proper Tactics and 'get used to' the logic of these questions.
Certain DS questions will require that you do a certain amount of math, but many of those same questions are based on patterns. Your ability to spot those patterns will save you some time and help you to avoid doing too much math. You might also have to train more with Tactical approaches so that you can avoid an 'all math, all the time' approach to DS (and the Quant section overall).
