Question - Elena receives a salary plus a commission that is equal to a fixed percentage of her sales revenue. What was the total of Elena’s salary and commission last month? FS1: Elena’s monthly salary is $1000. FS2: Elena’s commission is 5% of her sales revenue.
Answer Choices -
A-FS1 alone is sufficient, FS2 alone is not sufficient B-FS1 alone is not sufficient, FS2 alone is sufficient C-FS1 alone is not sufficient, FS2 alone is not sufficient, But FS1 & FS2 together are sufficient D-FS1 alone is sufficient, FS2 alone is also sufficient E- FS1 alone not sufficient. FS2 alone not sufficient. FS1 & FS2 together are also not sufficient
FS1 - Fact Statement 1, FS2 - Fact Statement 2
Solution -
1) What do I need to find out? A- Salary + Commission (Last Month)
2) What do I know? A- I know Commission is equal to a fixed percentage of sales revenue Comm. = A% of S.R
3) What else do I need to know? A- Salary, Commission (A%, S.R)
FS1 – Salary= $1000 We do not have a commission as well as sales revenue so we cannot proceed any further. Fact statement 1 is not sufficient. Strike off answer options A & D. Next, FS2 – Comm. = 5% Sales revenue
We don’t have Salary as well as Sales Revenue, so Data is not sufficient. Strike off answer options B.
Next, we shall consider both FS1 and FS2. Salary = $1000 Commission = 5% of Sales revenue We still do not have any value for sales revenue and hence, cannot proceed with the problem. Data is not sufficient even when both the statements are taken together, therefore we can strike out C and E is the correct answer.
