sh!t, you guys. I called student health cause i was thinking things weren't healing with my wrist, and guess what....

The doc thinks maybe also.

X-rays scheduled for Monday. Possible culprit: scaphoid. Check that out on webmd if you want to feel queasy.

The skinny:

an easy bone to break that doesn't heal well. Months in a thumb-cast, sometimes up to your bicep. Bone graphs, pins, dead bone bits. Oh hell.

i'm trying to be positive, but ndhlp had the same break and was casted for 6 MONTHS!!

i am so worried.

Man, that really sucks. Is it your writing hand? Seriously, you need to file a police report and see a lawyer. I'm not kidding this time. If you have to wear a cast for months on end or get bone grafts, you could be seriously inconvenienced (to put it mildly).

woah! Aau! I'm sorry to hear this!

Take photos of the bruises and post them on gmatclub. We can then "testify" as "material witnesses".

as requested....

holy crap!

I'm sorry aaudetat! That looks painful!!

I hope the hand is OK....

I second Pelihu's point... file a police report...

Police report was filed on the day it happened. Totally against my will, but I couldn't go anywhere anyway....

And now I'm glad it was. I sent an email to the officer to find out what the status is. It is my writing hand and hasn't been fun. I've only paid out about $300, but I would guess that more bills are coming.

Who has time for this crap?? And I've got finals next week. Argh.

Somewhat inconclusive x-rays on Monday led to an MRI monday night. The results? Not just a broken wrist, my friends, but a broken ARM!

Scaphoid has a minor fracture, and in a place that usually heals well. That's good.

Ulna is broken too - no wonder that hurts! Also nondisplaced.

3 weeks in my commando brace (this is the hummer of braces) and then more doctor time.

On a sadder note, the bruise is almost gone...i will miss it. It was like my own jackson pollack.

Last final exam tomorrow morning. Thank god.

ok. over fall break i realized the brace i was in wasn't stable enough - the bones were moving around - yick! So i got a specially made removable cast. I call it Cast Couture. I'm much more comfortable now that things are more stable. I have a doc appt in a week. I am not sure what he plans to do - maybe more x-rays?

Typing is sorta horrible - i can't turn my wrist so have to turn my whole arm, which is both tiring and hard on my elbw/shoulder/neck. Which is why i haven't been around here much.

On the whole, I am most certainly finally on the mend. You all have been great, and I totally appreciate the warm thoughts.

Update -

Saw the doctor today. My scaphoid break was minor and not very tender now, so he said I can ditch the brace.

Also, his secretary (she's the one who gave me the MRI results and told me to go get the cast couture) and I weren't communicating clearly, because my ulna isn't recently broken. It was broken 14 years ago (got in a fight with a horse; horse won) and still has a little bone chip floating around.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that I have a torn TFCC - cartilage in your wrist, between where the ulna and the wrist meet. It's possible it tore some 14 years ago and wasn't a problem until it was more seriously re-injured in the accident. Or maybe it's brand new from the accident. The bone chip may or may not have contributed to the problem. Either way, it's the tear that's hurting now.

This injury won't heal on its own, and may be only slightly bothersome or very bothersome. The bone chip may or may not exacerbate things. If the pain is on the more bothersome end of the scale, then I will need surgery. Awesome.

So now we wait and see.
