Sometimes I feel like telling my manager that I am too busy thinking about essays and I can't get that TPS report to him . I find myself thinking about these essays way too much, hopefully it pays off.

760? Is that all? You had better retake it.

panic! I should retake it huh? I was hoping for 790 so I can be above the 80% range of H/S/W. Now that I'm right at the tip, I don't think they'll ever accept me. ack! I need to reconstruct my GMAT books from the ashes in my fireplace now... any ideas? ;)

welcome back rhyme, we missed your post here the past week :)

Ugh, no! GMAT was wretched. Applying was more fun, really! I felt like I had control of the application process, and that preparing for the GMAT was like heading into battle, not know if you were going to face machetes or trolls or mustard gas or sumo wrestlers. But when we had this conversation sometime last year, I think I was the only one who felt that way.

I guarantee that you have oodles (scientific measurement that is precisely 4.3 times the amount of ‘a lot’) of interesting stuff that you have experienced. It only SEEMS ho-hum because for you it was standard fair. I’m amazed by what some people on this board do, have done, and plan to do. Every life is dynamic and exciting. Talk to people who know you and ask them what you did/have done that makes you interesting to them.

It is tough, we all want to be humble, well, except me. But many people do. Be honest about what you have brought to the table, them make a menu of what was there, slowly drilling down to the ingredients that you used to make them.

well, read a few chapters of Mr. Bodine's Essay book. I think I'll start doing the "data-mining" process today of my life experiences, and hopefully showing it to a friend and see if anything stands out.

It seems like everyone is going over word limit and dreading the essays. Am I the only one who's very glad that the word limits are so low? Maybe I just don't like to write essays. I *think* I'll enjoy essays more since it allows me to figure out who I am, versus GMAT where I'm just not sure what I'll get no matter what practice I have. I'll update y'all when I start writing to see if I'm more like aau or everyone else. =)

I've just found that its hard to shoehorn everything you want to say into a 300 word essay. I started with USC's career essays. They are divided into three very specific 250 word essays. I hated it, my answers are still too long and the content sucks.

On the other hand, I am almost done with my rough draft of Berkeley's career goals essay (1000 words). While I am still way over the limit (at least 350 words), I know there is alot of my typical fluff that can be cut out. Additionally, it paints a much more comprehensive and compelling picture of my experiences and goals. I have found that if given 500 words or so, I can write a decent essay. I am still struggling to master the very short essays.
