Solution

Given
In this question, we are given that
    • Deborah and Mike visit the university library at regular intervals every 3 and 4 days respectively.
    • Both of them were in the library on Monday.

To find
We need to determine
    • On what day of the week they will meet in the library again

Approach and Working out
As they are visiting at intervals of 3 and 4 days, they will be meeting again on LCM(3, 4) = 12th day from their first meeting
    • 12th day from Monday = Saturday

Thus, option D is the correct answer.

Correct Answer: Option D

How to know if the day of visit is included in the interval between each visit

When it says mike visits every 4 days , does that mean he would come after the 4 days or on the 4th day?

Official Solution:

Deborah and Mike regularly visit the university library every 3 and 4 days, respectively. If they both were at the library on a Monday, on which day of the week will they both be in the library together the next time?

A. Wednesday
B. Thursday
C. Friday
D. Saturday
E. Sunday

Deborah and Mike will meet in the library again after 12 days, as it is the least common multiple of their respective visiting intervals, 3 and 4 days. Therefore, their next encounter will occur on a Saturday, which is 12 days after the initial Monday meeting.

“Every 4 days” means after 4 full days have passed, not “count Monday as day 1.”

So if Mike was there on Monday, his next visits are Friday, Tuesday, Saturday, etc. The starting Monday is not counted again as part of the interval.
