dk94588,

congratulations, must say I'm awed by the approach simplicity extending sterling reward...! So well done...!

Let me know how re-running the CAT exam over and over again truely helped; convention wisdom says by 4-5 attempt you would have seen most of the questions in the CAT question bank... and thus not truely testing the gauged skills, knowledge of the subject... knowing all the answers by then...

Although I can also tell myself; with out waiting for your response... the proof is in the pudding...!

Its simply revolutionary to me...!!! Nevertheless I can imagine how you ate your nerves away by continuously repeating.

Once again ATB for you next steps...and continue sharing back your experiences to the blokes here.

the trick is that as long as you're improving you should be getting different questions. Also you have to take different types of CATs, not just GMATprep. You will end up getting some questions that are the same, but as long as you don't memorize them you still have to figure them out. I just looked at the questions I got wrong when I was done and deleted them so it would be less likely for me to remember them. But you would be surprised how many times you can take those tests without it giving you inflated scores. I scored almost exactly the same as my last prep test, just one point under on the Q section.

The greatest added value by using this approach is that you get used to taking tests. The concepts that are being tested on the GMAT are relatively simple, in most respects, and can be learned. The real preparation, for me at least, was being able to effectively display this knowledge in a timed test when your brain is fatigued.

This was just my approach, but I did increase my effective score like 50 points in about 4-5 weeks, so I feel as though it was effective. I almost want to keep going and take it again haha.

When do you plan to apply?

just powerprep. I don't know of any others. MGMAT is kind of out of scope, especially on the verbal section. I focused mostly on GMATprep and Powerprep, although MGMAT was helpful in the beginning to help you classify the types of problems, what concepts they test, and what you need to study for the next test. MGMAT questions don't match up with the Official questions, though, and you have to keep that in mind.

I currently have access to MGMAT CAT's and GMATprep (just as everyone else). What's a good substitution for MGMAT CAT's if they're "out of scope"?

i think if you use MGMATs the right way, they can be very helpful. you shouldn't take them expecting the test to replicate exam questions, or to predict your score. instead, use it to drill down what specific aspects you are weak in (i.e. not just weak in math, but what specific sub-section of math you are weak in).

Thanks for the advice. I plan to start taking CAT's again in about three weeks. I intend to start with Gmatprep. I guess I'll follow up with mgmat and GMAT club sets.

MGMAT CATs for the quantitative section I feel are very specific and can pinpoint your weaknesses, but many of the questions don't apply to the material tested in the actual exam, so it is an inefficient tool. The verbal section I feel is very distorted in what is being tested, and is very inefficient in my opinion, using the method outlined above where you see where you need to study by the questions you got wrong. It is useful, but I would be sure to understand that much of the material doesn't correlate with the exam, even though a lot of it does.
