Took it this morning, despite the evidence of improvement from week to week. my best score on a practice test was a 770 (50Q 47V), so I suppose I underperformed in the Quantitative, but I am otherwise happy with the score.
I figured since it is fresh in my mind I should say a few things that surprised me on the exam. First, the breaks are no longer five minutes long, they are eight, which might come into play when you are preparing. Also, on the quantitative section, i think the rate at which the questions get harder does not match up with GMATprep. On my exam, like the fifth question was a combinations probability question, after that they got increasingly harder. I think this may have caused my score to drop, as I was running out of time halfway through because the questions were too hard for me, screwing up my timing on the second half.
As I stated in an earlier topic, I had taken it before and knew what to expect, so the differences kind of shocked me. I suppose they had just instituted changes for the new year, but that is just an assumption.
As for preparation, I used a relatively unique approach. I just continously took CAT exams, using powerprep, GMATprep (both versions), and
MGMAT. Every time I took an exam, I would see the questions I got wrong, figure out why, and take it again. My scores continously went up from my first, which was like 710 (my first GMAT was 700), all the way to the last two being 770, so I figure its an applicable approach. I threw the idea around of delaying to prepare more, but figured 760 and 800 are like practically the same score, and some institutions evidently don't like GMATs that are too high. This approach also gets you used to taking CAT exams, which are of a somewhat uniform length and structure, so taking the GMAT is just like taking a practice test.
I also tried to mimic test conditions as much as possible, which I think was definitely helpful. My level of stress on game-day was not even close to what it was the first time.
I do have one question though, the test administrator said that my scores could potentially go up depending on the AWA scores, which I feel confident will be 6 or 5.5, does anyone know this to be true?
