You have worked at an oil & gas mnc for the past three years and now you have an offer from an NGO and you are wondering if you should quit or not?Hi, thanks for your response, I really appreciate it. With regards to your question, Yes this is correct.
The post that you have been offered at the NGO is a position of leadership and and excellent opportunity for you to develop your managerial skills and excel as a leader, make a difference. Leadership skills are the most sought after at Ivy league business schools especially Harvard Business School. In addition, this role is directly in line with your post MBA goals and will help you in presenting a very firm argument while discussing your goals. I think you should definitely go for it. However I have a few doubts and questions -
What is your current position at the MNC, any promotions?I'm a project controls engineer there, no significant promotions, only a switch between different projects..
Can you not pursue both? Do you have to leave your job to work for the NGO. Many people hold positions of responsibility in NGO along with their full time jobs and make desirable candidates for Business schools. Is that not an option for you?Well, this is the thing, I could technically do both, it just means I have to stretch myself a lot more due to working full time elsewhere. I really liked the idea of completely immersing myself full time in the NGO, my main concern was whether it would be frowned upon or seen as "lazy" , as you said a lot of people are able to juggle both.
Thanks a lot for the article!
