Great score to offset the Indian male engineer challenge. However, your score is just a defense not to get rejected, which doesn't mean getting selected. Your career narrative on the multiple 'why's?' will be key. Equally important is sensible school selection. e.g., why MIT for a career in finance, especially when there are many others who send more than a third of their class into that field? Equally, 'finance sector' is too broad, and you may be better placed to bring in precision, pragmatism, and ambition in your responses.

Your profile has strong potential with a 775 GMAT and Amazon experience, but transitioning from tech to finance may be challenging. Your CFA Level 1 certification demonstrates your commitment to a career in finance and your technical understanding of financial concepts and preparation for CFA Level 2 adds further credibility to your finance aspirations. However, moving from a technology role into the finance sector can raise concerns for admissions committees. They may question whether you have enough experience or background in core finance areas like investment banking, asset management, or corporate finance, which are competitive and often require specialized knowledge. While managing family finances is valuable, it may not carry the same weight as formal roles in the finance industry. Without direct finance experience in a corporate setting, you will need to clearly articulate why you are making this pivot and how your skills translate to finance. Draw connections between tech and finance, such as fintech trends, automation in financial systems, or data-driven decision-making in finance. You’ll need to highlight transferable skills (data analysis, financial management) and articulate clear post-MBA goals in finance. Leverage your CFA Level 1 to show commitment.

With your profile, you may be competitive at top MBA programs that value diverse experiences and have strong finance tracks, such as Wharton, Columbia, and Booth and Said Business School.

Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, first of all, congratulations on that amazing score. That score surely offsets your overrepresented background. Your GPA also looks decent. I am a bit surprised seeing your school list, I think you should give it a second thought and work on adding a few more top B-schools. Make sure to categorize them into reach, target and safe to maximize your chances of a successful admit. Now about your work experience, 5 years is strong enough to demonstrate leadership skills, impact and ability to work in cross-functional teams. Also, your post-MBA goals should clearly articulate a strong reason for an MBA and why from that particular school.

For an applicant from LATAM, you have a good score for the programs you have selected. IESE has generally a 625 FE equivalent, so you are ahead there and speaking Spanish you would be quite comfortable in Spain. However, US programs can offer access to some of the top employers, and awesome choice on McCombs and Foster.

I think you have a solid and great profile overall - fantastic that you have a strong MSc GPA - that shows itself well.

A lot of it will come down to how much you can showcase yourself as a driven, motivated, high performing applicant. Not just in essays but also in the resume. I have noticed a number of schools seem to be overwhelmed with applications and under-staffed, so they often do not even consider the essays (it seems to me) and just sort the apps based on scores and resume. So try to make it look appealing with promotions, growth, expanded responsibilities. If you are lacking promotions (some companies are bad with that), use the optional essay to highlight. If you have some entrepreneurial activities, etc, I would also put them on the resume to showcase that you are doing more than just your job to try to impress folks. If it is too small to put on the resume, include in the essays, stories, etc.

Also, if you have not already, talk to as many students from these programs as you can - that will help you build up a network that will be super valuable but also will help with admissions as you will learn a lot more and also you can name drop and draw parallels. LATAM students seem to be quite helpful in their community circles so feel free to troll the school sites for ambassadors, clubs, and just linkedin.
