Reason for MBA is,

Hi Yuhakpa
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your 9 years of experience in both traditional media and tech background looks impressive. This blend of media and digital experience will certainly make your application stand out, especially as you aim to pivot into consulting or finance post-MBA. Try highlighting impact at workplace.

Graduating with a degree in Accountancy gives you a solid academic background, and your internships with top consulting departments at leading accounting firms add to your credibility in the field. Your GMAT score is around 730 on the classic version, which is slightly near to the average for Stanford which is 738. Your GPA is slightly below average for Stanford. If you think you can enhance your GMAT score, a retake will strengthen your chances.

Thanks for the comment!
I am definitely taking another GMAT. Just found out I confused my Q and V score mixed. Got a way more room for Q score to increase.

Yes, I am bit worried about my GPA, (3.56 overall) but do you think Schools will consider yearly progress?
As I have filled Stanford Application, my GPAs were like below (Had rough 1st year in college :()
Fr : 2.82
So : 3.79
Jr : 3.84
Sr : 3.58

You're welcome! It's great that you're taking another GMAT and have identified an area for improvement. Regarding your GPA, schools do consider yearly progress to some extent. While a lower freshman GPA may be a concern, your upward trajectory demonstrates your ability to learn and improve.
Your response to the optional essay is a good start. You could elaborate on the specific challenges you faced in your freshman year and the steps you took to overcome them. This will help admissions committees understand the context of your lower GPA and see your resilience and determination.

Here are some additional tips for your optional essay:
* Be specific and provide concrete examples of the challenges you faced and how you overcame them.
* Focus on your growth and development throughout your college career.
* Keep your essay positive and upbeat.

Remember, your optional essay is an opportunity to tell your story and give admissions committees a more complete picture of you as a student and applicant. Use it to your advantage and highlight your strengths and potential.

Good luck with your GMAT and applications

Very good strong chances on the information provided 👍
Not sure how Stanford is with PE but the rest are a great fit. Internships and volunteering may not really matter - it is a nice touch but that's not what is going to carry you through the doors. Good luck in R2!!!

Hello @hftb,

I hope you are doing good. With a stellar GMAT score of 760 and 3.5 years of finance experience, particularly at Goldman Sachs, your transition to a front-end role in Private Equity post-MBA aligns well with your impressive career trajectory. Graduating from IIT-D and contributing to diversity as a female applicant from India further strengthens your candidacy. While your 3.5 GPA is decent, provide context for any grade deflation at your undergraduate institution. Craft a tailored application strategy, emphasizing your unique experiences and how each MBA program aligns with your career goals. Your competitive profile positions you well for admission to Harvard, Stanford GSB, Sloan MIT, Columbia, and Wharton. Best of luck with the admissions process!

After working as an investment banking analyst for over 2.5 years at a renowned merchant bank in Bangladesh, I aim to switch to Corporate Finance, preferably in the tech or retail sector. I have a GMAT of 640, and am a Valedictorian at my university, which is one of the top universities in my country.

Hi. Great professional background. It is probably going to be a bit tricky with 640 and some of these MBA programs that have 700 as their average - there is just little chance of getting in. Some of them do offer a test waiver, and likely better to waive in that case.

If you have a strong academic background (which sounds like you do), you ideally want to have a strong score for consistency sake. 640 is an old score, is there a chance you can do better on the GMAT Focus or GRE? if those are out of question, then I think you will be likely limited to Imperial out of your options. Maybe Ivey or Fisher but I would try to apply without a score even to those.

P.S. Keep in mind that many of your classmates will have 5-7 years of work experience in the MBA which will give them an edge. Masters will be more of your age but the jobs after Masters are slightly different than after an MBA, so one option could be to wait a year when you have 4 years at matriculation and more seasoned with a higher score. In that case if you can summon a 655+ score, or higher, you will be looking at scholarship opportunities as well potentially.

Thank you, this is very insightful. I already set my mind to join the 2025 session, so I thought of pivoting to a Masters in Finance instead. It would take a bit more time to improve my GMAT or get a good GRE score. I have sort of changed my preferences, do you think I stand a chance for a masters in fin?

Hi. I think there is a better chance getting into Masters. Not a masters expert but they seem to be less concerned with averages than MBA programs that are very competitive. Keep in mind that you will not be getting any Financial Aid with 640 whereas if you were able to move it closer to old 700 (that's 655 these days) then there would be better options and more chances of $$ so if you dont' think you can find the time for another attempt, totally fine but if you can, that could be worth $50-100K.

Hi. I have one question. If I choose to waive my GMAT for programs in unis like Vanderbilt and Indiana, or wherever I am eligible, do you think it would benefit my chances of getting a higher scholarship?
User avatar
19 Oct 2024, 10:26
As long as your score is below or at average, and you have an option not to submit it, then submitting will be better.

Part of the question is test providing your evaluation but the other part is the impact of that score on the schools average. if you don’t submit it, it does not impact and does not push the average lower which they want to keep us high as possible.

So basically, for instance, Indiana has a 683 GMAT, and mine is 640. Would it be best to take the waiver?

Hi
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your chances, your work experience is slightly on the lower end. Adcoms usually look for applicants with about 4-5 years of experience for a FT MBA. Plus, a 640 is another concern. If you are more inclined towards an MBA, I would recommend applying for the 2026 intake and giving another attempt on the FE version of the GMAT exam. A 675 on the FE version would be a strong score, anything above that would be a plus.

Looking at your profile, you have a strong GPA, which really highlights your academic abilities and commitment. However, with a GMAT score of 640 and some limited work experience, you might face a few challenges in the competitive MBA admissions landscape. To make your application stand out, consider gaining more relevant work experience. This can really showcase your leadership and teamwork skills. Additionally, I would suggest you retake the GMAT and aim for a higher score, which could significantly boost your application.

Hey, REanon

Looking at the given information, you seem to have a strong foundation for pursuing an MBA with 9 years of work experience in the real estate industry. You may highlight your deep market knowledge, valuable skills in project management and negotiation. However, your 655 GMAT Focus score is good, aiming for higher (depending on School selection and other factors) can strengthen your profile and make it competitive, as this is often preferred by top programs. Additionally, defining a clear post-MBA career path is very important, it will help you articulate your goals more effectively.

We would like to know more information about your academics, leadership roles or accomplishments in your career, opportunities to lead projects and quantify achievements, EC’s, community involvement or hobbies/interest and your post-MBA goals. This will help us understand your profile in depth and suggest some great schools that fit your profile.

I am Indian but I was born and raised in the UAE, I went to India for my undergrad and then to Denmark for my postgrad, after which I joined my family business and then I started my own business and have been running that since 2022.

Post-MBA short term goals: Start my own company within the renewable energy space
Post-MBA long term goals: Grow my company within the renewable energy space to the point where we would be on the cutting edge of the industry working on R&D to help make renewable energy more feasible and ubiquitous.

You've already applied - hence the timing of seeking profile review is late. The school selection appears very odd, covering extreme ends of the spectrum - I presume there was some science involved therein, especially MIT. I hope you did deep research on the DNA of each school. Though a good GRE score, on its own it may not be sufficient to offset your weak GPA. There is no mention of your plans post MBA, hence difficult to comment thereon.

Hi, I've edited the comments to reflect my post MBA goals. The reason for the choice of these schools is because what they offer aligns with my post mba goals, specifically entrepreneurship and energy. I am still deciding on some more schools to apply to that fit that criteria and will update when I decide about the colleges for round 2.

Are you looking to return to India (or the UAE) to start your own renewable energy company straight after your MBA? Or planning to set up in the USA? Do not lose sight of visa requirements in the USA specifically. This is not a concern if you are returning to India or if you have a UAE Golden Visa (or will take one). This seemingly trivial point, if missed in your career narrative, could cost you admits, since schools will conclude that you haven't thought things through.

Hi Ameenguy21
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. With 5 years of work experience in the energy sector you bring a solid entrepreneurial background to your applications. Your GRE score is impressive, however undergrad GPA might be a slight concern. Have you justified your lower GPA in your applications? Who were your recommenders?
Your diverse experiences across various regions along with your clear focus on growing within the renewable energy space, are strengths that should resonate with adcoms. I wish you luck with your applications!

You should be a competitive applicant we have had a moderator from a few years ago who had a very similar background. They might’ve gone to UK for their undergrad. I cannot remember but ultimately they got into Harvard. a lot will depend on your professional background and how busy you have been.

Hi Aravind, glad to see you receive admits from both schools you applied to!
I am aiming for the same schools and would love to get some insights!
