I have been working in the hospitality industry for the last 6 years. Short-term post MBA I would like to work at a hospitality company, long-term I would like to start my own hospitality/wellness consultancy in the US.

Trust you have researched well on whether hospitality and tourism firms hire international MBAs and sponsor H1B. If not, you can easily conclude what's the possible outcome of your applications.

HI. Congrats on surviving the pandemic in Hospitality. I have spent 15 years working in Hospitality in my professional career. I stumbled into it by accident... It is not very open to MBA's and there are only a handful of areas/spots that recruit them - often they dont' sponsor H1B's (I had to work for a consulting company that was an intermediary) and often they just hire McKinsey or BCG to do the MBA heavy lifting. The pay can also vary quite a bit depending on which team you are a part of and be quite a bit less than what Tech firms offer. If you got to the HBS employment report https://www.hbs.edu/recruiting/employme ... fault.aspx - Hospitality is not even a line on the list unfortunately....

I have 6.5 YOE with Indian Railways in a supervisory position, I have already led a team of 25+. After my MBA, my target industry is Electric Vehicles. I have my B.Tech (Electrical Engg.) from NIT-Patna and M.tech from IIT-BHU, both institutes of national importance of India. My target schools are ISB, IIMA and IIMB with a GMAT of 700 (Q50, V34 and IR6).

Thanks.

Hi. Nice profile. I don't know much about the Indian job market but US manufacturing is quite unfriendly towards MBAs and you will need relevant experience. Let's hope the magic of IIM plays here. Good luck!

I would start conversing with recent graduates about connecting you to some of the students of graduates working in the same industry and having similar same goals to see how you could make yourself a more attractive candidate to employers. Or just checking to make sure that your strategy is feasible and you don’t need to reevaluate it.

Good luck 👍

Thanks mate. I have already done that, Manufacturing jobs post-MBA are fewer, but people of similar backgrounds do not generally tend to pursue MBA post-work experience and jobs that are available pay very well. People with similar profiles have landed better-paying jobs from IIMs or ISB.

I see some strong points in your profile- Excellent GPA + GMAT score show your academic capability. The work experience looks on an upward trend and I hope you will back it up with a solid resume. I'd like to know more about your extra curricular activities and what you do on the side apart from work - that can help round out your profile and make your candidature that much more valuable to b-schools. Are you doing any R2 applications, or were there more R1 b-schools where you applied?

You should easily get the invite for Darden (unless it is guaranteed that is 😇) and i think you can consider a variety of options though there is a good chance Darden will still give you the best offer in terms of Aid and Admission package

IMHO, there are no guarantees in life and MBA applications. Your high score and profile can be easily kept to a side if your career narratives, essays, achievements, and LoRs did not come together to create a compelling story. I have seen 770's being dinged. Just manage your expectations. Best wishes.

I have been working in multinational banks for 8 years across the APAC region, at Korea and Singapore, decided to move on to another careerpath within the financial industry as a junior relationship manager. Now I am trying to move on and pursue a career development, pivoting into other fields of financial industry - asset management, investment banking or private equity, and for that trying to make a movement to UK.

Personal situation: Partner is a UK citizen so trying to stick to UK school. High chance of relocating to London by current employer with their support (considering family reasons)
CFA Level 2 exam passed, Level 3 candidate for Feb 2025 exam.

Thanks for your review!

Are you applying exclusively to MiM's? Is INSEAD an MiM or MBA?

I think sticking with the UK makes a lot of sense for employment as well, and not only for personal reasons. You should be well within the numbers and averages for the program. I have not been able to find LBS MiF age or experience for example but the alums they showcase are definitely more seasoned, so I am hoping you would be considered a valuable addition to the program. Also, looks like they require a few years of work experience, so that's a good fit as well. You don't want to apply where everyone is 22 years old and clueless about the real work and goes to recruit a jr. associate at the end.

I think overall you have a strong profile. There may be a bit of a positioning to make with your career path and LOR's - to show more of a growth or a direction and perhaps use an optional essay to explain the life situation/decisions if that is not present.

Career Plan:

My background has always been in a pure tech space. I want to get a better understanding of other markets and help apply new technologies in these markets.

Education:
I have an undergrad in information analysis and a minor in computer science from a T-20 school in the US.

Career:
I have a total of 5 years of PM experience from a FAAMG company, where I have been working since leaving school

Extracurricular Activities:
During university I was president of multiple jewish clubs on campus, on the board of a professional technology fraternity, was a representative in the student government, and was on the leadership for a mental health group on campus.

After school I am now on the board of a regional LGBTQ+ nonprofit (I'm gay). I also do community development work for the Jewish community in the city I live in.

Let me know how you'd review my application, and if there is any other context I can provide? Thank you!

Hi. you have a fantastic profile. It’s very strong and competitive 👍

Feel the main concern the dead missions would have for you having clear reasons for your switch to consulting.

Over the last five or 10 years, a very common exist strategy for consulting has been tech. Consulting paid more to start but tech had more growth opportunities and for more seasoned than senior folks, it paid more and offered less busy travel schedule. so having somebody go from tech to consulting isn’t very traditional and as the result will have the admissions wonder if you’ve done your research and almost sort of being parental and making sure that you’re making the right decision so I would say your main checkbox to tick would be to resolve that question. This is not particularly hard by the way. You just need a simple and straightforward explanation such as I hate tech and I want to grow in different ways, and here’s why I think I’ll be successful.

as usual with consulting, your client facing skills are extremely important so you want to touch on your presentation skills, client facing skills, and things like that in your application. Obviously it would be indirect in someway but that’s another secondary tick mark you would want to hit.

Hey @bb, thank you so much for the response. I'm going to say that I want to go into consulting to help companies implement AI into their business strategies. I current work on an AI product at a major tech company, and I constantly see this as a hole in the market and an opportunity to make a big impact.

My job has pretty large presentation components to it, but I will make sure I reference it in my application.

Thanks for the profile review!

Hey, Jake Jake 12

Your application is competitive, and with a strong narrative that links your tech background to your career in consulting, you have a fair chance of getting admitted to the programs you are targeting. Highlight your involvement with the LGBTQ+ non-profit and community development work, pointing out how diverse your experiences will be an asset for the MBA cohort. When applying, do consider scholarships as top business schools provide scholarships that acknowledge excellence in academic performance and professional achievements. Good luck with your applications!

We’d be happy to discuss your profile in more detail to enhance your application’s competitiveness..Feel free to schedule a call with us here for an in-depth profile evaluation and additional benefits.
