I plan to give my GMAT again before R2- with a target score of 665/ 665+. I am currently with EY with People consulting (HR consulting) since the past 3 years. Plan to continue in consulting post MBA. I have received 4 performance-based awards in the last 3 years, and about to receive my 3rd promotion in a few weeks.

I have done my graduation in Psychology from Mithibai College, Mumbai university (graduated in 2022 with a 8.74 CGPA)
Prior to that my HSC and SSC scores are 84% & 90% respectively.
In terms of extracurriculars- I have represented my college as an assistant contingent leader in various fests during college. participated in college fests. done a few CSR activities like beach cleaning. Have ran marathons, (10k recently). Have also won a group qawwali competition in Mumbai university's youth festival.
Primary target is ISB 2026 intake R2, but also plan to apply for Insead 2027 january intake.

Hi Bhoomi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile reflects strong early-career growth with three years of consulting experience at EY, multiple performance awards, and an upcoming third promotion, an impressive trajectory. Your GMAT FE score is decent, but your plan to retake and aim for 665+ is smart, as it will make you more competitive for your target schools. Your academic record is solid, with a GPA of 8.74 in Psychology and strong high school scores, showcasing consistent academic performance.

Your extracurriculars- marathons, college leadership roles, CSR activities, and cultural achievements add great diversity to your profile and show you as a well-rounded applicant. With strong career progression and a clear consulting focus post-MBA, you are well-aligned with your target schools. You will have to position your promotion and awards effectively in your essays. Also, focus on building a strong narrative for your retake strategy and why consulting remains your chosen path.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!
No pressure, no strings - just helpful insights on where you stand and how you can strengthen your chances.

Hello Bhoomi,

Your professional story at EY with rapid promotions and multiple awards is strong, and your 8.74 GPA provides a solid academic foundation. The immediate issue is your GMAT Focus score: 635 is far too low for ISB or INSEAD.

A retake into the 660–680+ range is essential for ISB, and ideally 680–700+ for INSEAD. With the promotion you expect soon, your career trajectory will be compelling if paired with a stronger test score.

Extracurriculars are good but skewed toward your college years. Current community or leadership involvement would strengthen your profile. ISB R2 is realistic with a stronger score; INSEAD will require a much higher score plus clear articulation of your global career goals.

Your retake strategy will determine your chances. Let’s connect to map out how to maximize your ISB and INSEAD applications.

I started of as a R&D engineer in the automotive industry. I worked there for about 1.5 years. Post that, I switched to data analytics domain working for a mid tier consulting firm. For last 1.5 years, I have been working as a data analytst / engineer role in a product based firm. I am on track for fast track promotion in the firm. I want to do an MBA to switch to product management in tech.

I have good extra curricular in college but that was 5 years ago. After college, I have been involved at 2 NGOs but it's basic nothing spectacular.

Hello R P,

You have a well-rounded professional background, moving from engineering to consulting and now analytics in a product firm. This shows progression, but your post-MBA goal of product management is highly competitive for Indian male applicants, so differentiation will be key.

Your GRE 326 is a solid score, but Booth and Haas will expect deeper leadership and stronger extracurriculars than what you’ve outlined so far.

Ross, McCombs, and Tepper look more realistic, while Booth and Haas would be stretch targets unless you can demonstrate exceptional leadership or entrepreneurial impact.

You should also consider Duke Fuqua or UCLA Anderson for balance. Strengthening your NGO work into measurable impact and tightening your career story around PM will make your applications stronger.

Let’s talk through how to refine your positioning and craft a stronger career narrative for top schools.

Through my 3+ years of work experience, I have worked in both consulting and e-commerce, gaining experience in strategy, analytics, and building product features that improve customer journeys. After my MBA, I want to take up a product management role in the U.S. tech sector, where I can apply my mix of business and data skills to build impactful products. Over the long term, I hope to shape product strategy or start my own venture in consumer tech, with a focus on emerging markets where there is potential for scalable solutions.

Good GMAT score. Well done. I hope you have some strategy/logic behind your school selection because a few schools you have listed aren't strong in tech. Your research on employment reports should have shown you the data points. You may also want to study deep about PM roles.

Hello Kavash,

Your 715 GMAT Focus is competitive and offsets your 7.14 GPA. With 3+ years across consulting and e-commerce, your background is solid but not differentiated, as many applicants have similar experience.

Your target of U.S. tech PM roles is realistic, but schools like Booth, Columbia, and Kellogg will expect evidence of innovation and leadership impact in your work.

INSEAD and HEC could also be strong fits given your global aspirations. You should strengthen your extracurriculars and leadership story, as right now your career narrative is solid but not standout.

Hi @KavashTaken,

With 4 years across consulting and e-commerce and a solid 715 GMAT Focus, you have a strong foundation for U.S. MBA applications. Your mix of strategy, analytics, and product-building experience aligns directly with your post-MBA goal of tech product management, which makes your story coherent and realistic. The modest GPA would be offset by your GMAT. Your professional narrative shows both impact and progression. To stand out, highlight specific examples of how your work improved customer experience or drove measurable business outcomes, as this will showcase transferable skills to PM roles. For schools, you should be competitive at top 15 U.S. programs and could target M7 with strong essays and leadership stories.
Highlighting your leadership, professional achievements/tangible impact, relevant skills, career goals, unique experiences, and fit with the program effectively will be crucial in crafting a compelling application. To maximize your chances, consider applying to a balanced mix of reach, target, and safety schools.

Hey @KavashTaken,
Strengths:
1. GMAT
2. You are at the Sweet spot of Experience for admissions applications
3. Realistic Career Goals and alignment

Good selection of Schools ,though depending on your domain, and preferred post MBA geography, I would consider Stern, and even Stanford, and may remove Columbia and INSEAD.
Well drafted Resumes, Clarity and commitment in Career Goals, Strong LORs and compelling stories can possibly get you high scholarships

Weaknesses/ Unknowns:
1. ORM (Indian Male Engineer)
2. GPA standing unknown
3. College Reputation
4. Leadership & ECs
5. Current Employer Reputation
6. Other interests

Thanks for sharing your profile details @KavashTaken ! Nice GMAT FE score of 715, competitive, you’re in range for your target schools. Relevant career goals: E-commerce + consulting + strategy → good alignment with product management in tech. Admissions committees would ike to see clear, logical transitions. Analytics + customer journey + product-building can be a good narrative for PM roles. Your interest in emerging markets for the long term will resonate with schools like INSEAD, HEC, Haas, Booth, and Kellogg, which value innovation-driven and global leadership.

Gaps / Areas for improvement: Applicant pool competition (Indian Male), you’re in one of the most competitive pools. At M7, you’ll be competing with peers who often have 740+ GMAT (classic) and brand-name consulting/tech firms. With ~4 years at intake, you’ll be at the lower-middle range for U.S. schools (average is 4.5-5 years). You’ll need to show maturity and leadership beyond years of experience. A 7.14 GPA is fine, but not standout. You’ll want to strengthen your academic story, either by highlighting quant-heavy coursework, online certifications, or examples of analytical rigor at work. You’re heavy on M7 / top-10 schools. Round 2 competition will be intense. Sharpen your differentiator, many Indian candidates apply with consulting + tech backgrounds. What makes your story unique?

Possible angles: Driving better user experiences in e-commerce. How your product works has touched millions of customers. Frame your long-term vision clearly (why you, why now, why this market). Show leadership beyond years of work (mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, client-facing strategy).

Questions for you (to strengthen profile narrative):
1) Have you had leadership opportunities beyond your years? (team management, client ownership, mentoring juniors, leading cross-functional initiatives)
2) Do you have extracurricular or community leadership? (Schools love seeing holistic leadership, not just corporate).
3) How flexible are you geographically post-MBA? If U.S. PM roles are a must, a U.S. MBA is safer than INSEAD/HEC.

We would love to learn more about your academic background, extracurricular activities, professional experience, and personal journey so we can offer a more tailored assessment of your profile and evaluate your chances at your target schools more accurately. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile shows strong potential with 4 years of experience spanning consulting and e-commerce, giving you a solid foundation in strategy, analytics, and product development, key skills for a post-MBA transition into PM. Your GMAT FE score is strong, while your GPA is slightly below average for the most selective programs, meaning strong essays and recommendations will be crucial for your application.

Your career goals- moving into U.S. tech PM and eventually leading product strategy or building your own venture are clear and well-aligned with the offerings at your target schools. With a broad list, would you like me to help you prioritize which schools could be classified as reach, target, and safety? Also, do you have any examples of measurable impact, like maybe- revenue growth or customer engagement improvement that you can highlight to strengthen your application?

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

After working for 4 years in IT consulting I come from a background where I have gained hands-on experience in managing complex tasks with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. My short-term goal post-MBA is to transition into a role in management consulting or corporate strategy, where I can apply my problem-solving skills to help organizations improve decision-making and performance. In the long term, I aspire to move into a leadership position in finance/strategy, contributing to business growth and transformation on a larger scale. I am particularly interested in opportunities in India and Southeast Asia, given the dynamic business environment and growth potential in these regions, but I also remain open to global roles that offer exposure to diverse markets.

Hello,

Your academic stats are excellent with a 9.19 GPA and a 337 GRE.

Imperial is very much within reach, and your consulting and IT background supports your short-term goal in strategy or corporate finance.

The main gap in your story is clarity of direction, your post-MBA goals move from consulting to finance without showing a natural link.

Admissions will want to see a tighter narrative. Additionally, given your strong profile, you may want to also target INSEAD or LBS, which could give you broader global exposure and stronger networks in Asia.

Hi,
You bring a very strong academic profile (337 GRE, 9.19 GPA) and 4 years in IT consulting, which sets you up well for top global MBA programs. Your short-term goal of transitioning into consulting or corporate strategy is highly feasible given your problem-solving background, and it also acts as a natural bridge to your long-term ambition in finance/strategy leadership. The India + Southeast Asia focus adds credibility, as many schools value candidates with emerging market aspirations, but staying open to global roles is wise. To maximize competitiveness, highlight leadership, client impact, and cross-functional collaboration from your IT consulting experience, since adcoms will want evidence you can pivot beyond tech. With your profile, you should target M7 schools (Wharton, Booth, Kellogg), INSEAD, LBS confidently, while also adding some strong T15 U.S. schools.

It will be crucial to build an authentic, compelling narrative. Focus on articulating your goals and career transition plan clearly - make sure your goals are specific and well-defined. Connect your past experiences to your future goals, highlight the specific skills or exposure you're seeking and explain how the MBA will help you gain these to achieve your goals. To maximize your chances, consider applying to a balanced mix of reach, target, and safety schools.

3. You are at the Sweet spot of Experience for admissions applications
4. Diversity of your demographics

Basis these, I would suggest you also add the likes of Booth, Stanford, Haas, UCLA etc from US schools to your list. For European schools, IMD may also be a good addition

Weaknesses/ Unknowns:
1. Leadership & ECs
2. College Reputation
3. Current Employer Reputation

Thanks for sharing your profile @H***** ! Your high GPA + 337 GRE + 4 years consulting is an attractive combination for INSEAD/HEC/Imperial/Fuqua, especially because INSEAD and HEC place large shares into consulting.

What AdComs will look for:
INSEAD- They prize an international mindset, rapid impact, and clear global mobility plans. Use your UK base and any cross-border project work as proof of global fluency. Essay focus: Short, crisp stories showing cross-cultural influence, client impact, and why you’ll recruit for consulting across EMEA/Asia.

HEC Paris- Good for consulting and strategy switching; HEC grads often change sector/location after MBA (majority switch function/location). Highlight international mobility and willingness to relocate. Highlight leadership examples and quant/analysis rigour.

Fuqua’s Early Action is ideal for applicants who are certain this is their top choice and want early visibility. Fuqua emphasizes teamwork and a client-service mindset, play to your consulting examples.

Imperial- London-based, tech/analytics-friendly; employer links in Europe. Show regional interest in India/SEA and how Imperial’s London base helps global consulting placement.

Demonstrate consulting impact with numbers, convert outputs into business outcomes like cost saved, time reduced, revenue enabled, and stakeholder buy-in metrics. Recruiters & adcoms want MEASURABLE impact. Show regional strategy interest, concrete examples: projects involving India/SEA, market research, clients in the region, or plans for recruiting in those offices. Build a finance/strategy signal for long-term goal: short course (CFA Level I, Corporate Finance, Financial Modeling) or a consulting project with a finance/strategy tilt. Networking & outreach, alumni + student club meetings at each school to collect specifics you’ll cite in essays and to get interview referrals.

We would love to learn more about your extracurricular activities, professional experience, and personal journey so we can offer a more tailored assessment of your profile and evaluate your chances at your target schools more accurately. Feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

Hello Prince,

Your CFA charter is a strong credential and adds weight to your finance career.

However, a 625 GMAT Focus and a 3.2 GPA are weak for your target schools, especially Stern.

Investment banking is one of the most competitive recruiting paths, and schools will expect stronger academics.

Goizueta and Kenan-Flagler are more realistic, but you should aim for at least a 675–690 GMAT Focus to increase your chances.

Your long-term goal of starting a PE firm in Africa is ambitious but should be framed more realistically in your essays.

Hi @Prince2050,

You have a strong and rare profile with 10 years in PE and a CFA charter, which positions you well for finance roles. However, your GMAT 625 and GPA 3.2 are below top-tier U.S. MBA norms, making schools like Stern challenging; targeting 675+ would significantly improve competitiveness for NYC IB roles. Your short-term goal of joining Investment Banking in New York is realistic with your experience. Your long-term vision of founding a PE firm focused on Africa while is compelling needs to be repositioned in a more achievable manner. Emphasize your decade of deal experience, CFA credential, and global outlook to strengthen your application narrative.

To maximize your chances, consider applying to a balanced mix of reach, target, and safety schools.

Hey @Prince2050,
Strengths:
1. Demographics,
2. CFA Charter
3. Work Experience with PE (A weakness when your Career Goal is stated to be IB)

Weaknesses:
1. Low GMAT Aggravates your low GPA (685+ would be better, though 675 may also, but barely get you in)
2. Low GPA
3. Lack of clarity and Alignment in your Goals (IB is extremely demanding, and also requires very high quant skills)

Suggestion:
1. even for Emory and UNCKF (lower end of your basked), improve your GMAT preferably to 685
2. APPLY with a strong application AT THE EARLIEST. With 10 years already, you are already at the threshold where chances go down rapidly

Hope it helps

Thank you for sharing your profile @Prince2050 !

Strengths you should capitalise on: 10 years of PE experience + CFA charter: powerful domain credibility for finance roles and for b-school admissions when framed as senior-level technical mastery and deal leadership. CFA is respected by finance recruiters and is a valuable signal of technical competence. Focused career plan: IB in NYC → long-term PE in Africa is believable and strategically coherent. With 10 years, you bring maturity, leadership, and deal-level responsibility, a key asset for 1-2 year MBA programs that recruit MBAs into IB/PE roles.

GMAT FE 625 is below the median at your most competitive school (NYU Stern average GMAT is ~733). That will make Stern a reach unless you strongly mitigate with outstanding professional evidence, exceptional essays, and strong LORs. GPA 3.2 is modest, not fatal, but combined with a lower GMAT, it increases the admissions burden to prove academic readiness.

IB recruiting in NYC is hyper-competitive and tends to favour candidates with top-tier school brands, previous IB/BB experience, or stellar test scores. Recent market softness has made recruiters extra selective.

1) Try to retake the GMAT, aiming for 685+.
2) Create a deal-focused “transaction dossier” that shows the deals you led: role, size, valuation levers, model snippets, your contribution, outcome. Why: For admissions and IB recruiters, real transaction evidence + quantified impact is gold, particularly if your test score is lower.
3) Leverage the CFA, but don’t over-rely on it. Remember, CFA alone rarely substitutes for a high GMAT in admissions; it helps in recruiting and credibility.
4) Tighten your essays: emphasize leadership + client outcomes + Africa thesis.
Short-term story: Why IB now? Explain the pivot from PE to IB as a strategic move (like broadened client network, accelerated deal flow experience, NY platform). Show how a particular banking role will build the skills needed to scale your PE business later.
Long-term story (compelling): How will you build a PE firm for Africa? Mention market gaps, deal-sourcing advantage from local roots, and how MBA + NY experience builds that bridge.

Start contacting alumni at targeted schools who are in NYC IB groups; ask for recruiter/coach introductions.

Questions/ things to focus on for you:
1) Deal detail: Number of deals you led vs contributed to, typical deal sizes, and your most recent transaction example (feel free to redact sensitive figures).
2) Who can write your LORs (PE partners, clients, etc.)?
3) Are you flexible to start in NYC only, or would you consider other financial hubs (London, Toronto) that can later route you back to Africa?
4) How important is scholarship amount vs school brand vs internship access to you?

We would love to learn more about your academic background, extracurricular activities, professional experience, and personal journey so we can offer a more tailored assessment of your profile and evaluate your chances at your target schools more accurately. If you'd like, feel free to book a profile evaluation session.

Cheers!

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile shows strong work experience with 10 years in PE. Plus, being a CFA charterholder, highlights your strong finance skills. Your clear career plan, moving into IB in New York and later starting a PE firm focused on Africa makes your story compelling. Strong essays and recommendations will be key.

You will also have to highlight major deals that showcase your potential in your essays. Also, do you have leadership experience (managing teams or projects) that can highlight your impact beyond technical skills?

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target MBA programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!
No pressure, no strings - just helpful insights on where you stand and how you can strengthen your chances.

Hi Akshay,

You have a strong and multifaceted profile for ISB, with 5 years of consulting experience, a top-tier academic record, and a 665 GMAT Focus/700 GMAT Classic. Your extracurriculars - Toastmasters, published author, and social media presence demonstrate communication skills, creativity, and influence, which are highly valued. The clear post-MBA goal of transitioning into Product Management is realistic, given your consulting background and tech exposure. As a reapplicant, focus on showing professional growth since your last application, clarifying your product management story, and highlighting leadership impact to strengthen your application.

Hey @Saloni_3747,
Excellent GPA, What college?
3 years is on the lower side, but my clients with 3 years an no name engineering colleges have studied in M-7s (scholarships and Loans help anyone study there, regardless of personal finances)
The key is to set a clear link between your pre-MBA career to your post-MBA trajectory
Also, unless you are specifically fixated on post-MBA careers in India, looking at other options would help increase your clarity.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Hi Saloni,

You have a strong academic profile (GPA 9.2) and 3 years in diversified financial services, which provides solid analytical and problem-solving experience for your ISB application. Your goal to pivot into consulting or an industry-focused role post-MBA is realistic. To strengthen your profile, aim for a competitive GMAT (665+) to complement your high GPA, and highlight leadership, impact, and cross-functional collaboration in your current role. Framing your story around transferable skills from finance to consulting/strategy will be key for a compelling ISB application.

I have done my B.E in Computer Science, and have worked as software engineer at Amazon for a year. After that, I joined my father's manufacturing business and was working as Head of Operations, leading team of 20+ employees. After MBA, I want to work in consulting and few years down the line , I want to open my own startup. I am targeting Europe, Singapore schools.

Hello,

Your GRE 313 is a weakness for schools like INSEAD, LBS, and HEC Paris, especially as an Indian male applicant. Your story of Amazon plus leading operations in your family business shows leadership and initiative, but consulting is one of the most saturated post-MBA goals.

You will need to highlight measurable outcomes from leading 20+ employees and demonstrate strong business impact. Without at least a 320+ GRE, most of your European targets are long shots. ISB and Bocconi may be more forgiving, but INSEAD/HEC/IESE will require a stronger test score.

Hey @qosr,
With an over-represented profile (Indian, Male, Engineer), you incur higher risks when applying with this low a GRE.
Yet, if you are able to work with your consultant to draft excpetional and compelling resume & overall applications, you may stand a better chance at IESE, Essec, ESADE tier of schools than at schools like HEC, LBS, INSEAD etc where the median GREs are much higher.
Which college did you graduate from? How did your career trajectory at Amazon look like? What ECs can you leverage?
Also, Bocconi may not get you the post-MBA career outcomes you are looking for.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

I believe you have multiple dimensions to reflect upon: a weak GRE score, language skills for the EU (not stated), portability of your skills from the family business into consulting, as well as the handicap an Indian passport creates for consultant mobility. Singapore is very tough to crack for a job for an Indian.

Hi @qosr,

You have a diverse and entrepreneurial profile with 3 years of experience, combining tech (Amazon) and operations leadership in a family manufacturing business. Leading a team of 20+ and running operations demonstrates tangible leadership and ownership. Your GRE 313 and GPA 7.64 are decent but below average for top European or Singapore schools. I’d encourage you to retake the GRE and aim for a 320+ score to strengthen your application and stay competitive.
You will need strong essays and recommendations to highlight leadership, impact, and clarity of post-MBA goals. Emphasize your transition story from tech to operations to consulting. Your long-term startup ambition aligns well with European/Asian programs that value entrepreneurial drive.

I am planning to retake my GMAT before R2 to improve my score to 645 - 695.

I am a CA with 2 years of pre qualification experience (apart from 3 years Articleship) and 5 years of post qualification experience. I have been working with PwC SDC as a Senior Associate 3 and a Second team lead since past 4 years. I started with PwC as SA level 1 and have had 2 promotions during the tenure. All along I have been mapped to Canadian Territory, managing a diverse audit engagement portfolio of 5-6 MNC's along with US and Canadian Engagement teams. I have managed a diverse team of 5 to 6 people mapped under me and have mentored 10 juniors to date. I have successfully managed audit engagements of globally recognized companies and have been recognized for exceptional communication with global engagement teams.

Having gained the exposure in Accounting and Auditing industry for 5 years I now want to move towards management consultancy and align my career path more towards my long term goal of establishing my own management consultancy firm.

Hello Mohammad,

Investment banking is a well-trodden MBA path, and schools like Wharton, Booth, and Columbia place strongly in the sector.

Your GPA of 3.72 is solid, but without a GMAT score, your profile lacks competitiveness. You will need a 700+ to be viable at your target schools, especially Wharton and Harvard.

Also, your stated goal of being at Goldman Sachs in 5 years comes across as generic. You need to refine your goals to show how your specific IB experience in Pakistan differentiates you and how you will leverage an MBA network to transition globally.

Hello Chucks,

With 9 years of experience in energy and a plan to return to Nigeria to lead strategic initiatives, your goals make sense.

However, Booth is highly competitive, and without a GMAT score, your candidacy cannot be assessed seriously.

Your GPA of 3.45 is decent but not strong enough to offset the absence of a test score. For Booth, you will need at least a 700+ GMAT Focus to stand a realistic chance.

I suggest broadening your school list to include programs with strong energy and Africa-focused networks, such as Duke Fuqua or Oxford Saïd.
