Thanks a lot! Actually, I am currently struggling on whether I should accept or decline INSEAD and risk it with LBS.

That is very very risky. I’ve heard of a lot of people talking to business schools and getting them to extend the deadlines. This was during the pandemic but still, I would push that route rather than try to risk and end up with nothing 😬 😬

Sorry for reaching out to you again - I still have not decided what to do hahah but I guess you are totally right that the decision against INSEAD would be very risky. Very informally, would you say my profile is belor or above average?
I am currently regretting not having applied to hec paris bc I thought I would not have a chance... and I actually never thought that I would be in the next round in both LBS and INSEAD

Congrats on your admit and invite!!! Awesome job!
It is a bit hard to say about the profile caliber as MiM profiles can be without any work experience.

I think your startup and engagement during undergrad is what makes your profile stronger. Perhaps your GPA and undergraduate institution were enough to cover the Focus test score that's close enough to average. However, from invites and admits, it looks like you have a very attractive profile 👍

Dont recommend targeting Round 3 specially for international students. Would advise to stick to Round 1/ Round 2. There maybe other good options in the Entrepreneurial space have heard good reviews of Babson for Family Business folks.

Profile evaluations for admission to top business schools like LBS and INSEAD can be quite competitive, and the admission decisions are influenced by various factors beyond just GMAT scores and GPAs.

LBS Masters in Management:

Your GMAT score of 730 is strong and competitive for most business schools, including LBS. A GPA of 3.6 is also strong and indicates a solid academic record.

Having a background in consulting is valuable, as it shows your relevant work experience and can contribute to class discussions. Your post-MBA goal aligns with your pre-MBA experience, which is a positive factor. Having a variety of internships in strategy and consulting, including one at PwC, demonstrates your commitment and experience in the field.

Overall, your profile seems strong and competitive for admission to LBS's Masters in Management program. Your GMAT score, GPA, and relevant work experience make you a competitive applicant. However, remember that LBS considers a holistic application, so your essays, recommendations, and interview performance will also be essential factors in the admission decision.

INSEAD Master in Management:

A GMAT score of 730 is competitive for INSEAD, but keep in mind that INSEAD is known for having a diverse and international student body, so other factors, such as international experience, can be important. Your GPA is strong and should meet INSEAD's academic standards. Like LBS, your consulting background is an asset, and it aligns with INSEAD's focus on diversity of experience. Your career goals align with your pre-MBA experience, which is a plus.

Your internships in strategy and consulting, including one at PwC, show your dedication to the field.

INSEAD values a diverse class with candidates from various backgrounds, so be sure to highlight any international experiences, language skills, or unique aspects of your background in your application. Additionally, your essays, recommendations, and interview performance will play a crucial role in your admission to INSEAD's Master in Management program.

Remember that both LBS and INSEAD receive numerous applications, and the competition is tough. To improve your chances, focus on crafting compelling essays, securing strong recommendations, and preparing thoroughly for interviews. Highlight your unique qualities and experiences to stand out in the applicant pool.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

@AdMan73 - your acads seem pretty strong. Most MBA programs require min. 2 years and average of 4-5 years work-ex at time of joining. Particularly for the likes of LBS, INSEAD and HEC MBA, your lower work-ex might be a challenge.

Which intake/ year are you planning to apply in? And have you considered MiM/ Masters programs?

Yup, so by the time I join any of those schools, I will have about 3 years of work experience. I am also willing to delay my MBA applications by a year if needed - which would give me 4 years of work experience. Also, would I be competitive in some other top US schools?

I haven’t considered MiM yet. I will take a look at it but would prefer MBA.

@Adman73 - That makes sense. With 3-4 years work-ex, you'd fit an MBA class more than an MiM. Having a strong narrative would be crucial though i.e. linking your experiences and skill-sets to your goals and tackling 'why MBA' and 'why now'.

Do you think I’ll be a competitive applicant in some of the top US schools?

INSEAD and EU schools will love that background. Just make sure you pad/address the question of why do you need an MBA and why in addition to the degrees you have. Nothing fancy is needed - the profile is fairly unique with you having worked on 3 continents. That's not common.

Thank you for your feedback!

What about some of the top15-top20 US schools? Do you think I’d have a competitive application?

Sorry, I just noticed you have 1.3 years of work experience. I did not quite catch that last time I posted. I assumed you were much older/more experienced. Sorry. I think most MBA programs (including EU) would like you to have a bit more experience. US programs want at least 2 years in 98% of cases and prefer more along the lines of 4-5 of full time work experience as the roles they offer and to get selected for would need some demonstrated results. Recruiting with little or lacking brands is tough. And I think schools would wonder why are you getting an MBA just a year or so after finishing a Masters and whether you will be able to use it effectively or you are just collecting degrees (that's something to address why MBA) - this is not a dig by the way.

As to your chances. I think they will only improve with time, so you can apply now and see how you do. Your application is competitive besides the experience level (one way to offset it is maturity or other accomplishments, etc) but again, even if you dont' get great results, you should only fair better over time.

No worries! Yup so I’m not planning on applying for any of the 2024 intakes. I was thinking I’d apply for the 2025 or the 2026 intake. That way, by the time I get admitted, I’ll have 3-4 years of work experience.

I have received an award from the CEO of the company I work at and I’m also hopeful of a promotion in the next 2 months. One problem is that currently I’m working in Risk which is not be a popular pre-MBA industry.

Got ya. The background is not as huge of a detriment by itself. It does help if you were a consultant and you are going to be a consultant so it’s a pretty easy equation. At the same time, you can perhaps leverage a more unique background and just be very safe with your goals. By meaning safe, I mean apply with goals that are in finance or related field or if you are planning to apply with consulting goals then you need to link and show how your background in quantitative and back office, can be leveraged in client facing front office. by the way, one way to improve your profile is facing clients, being in the front office, working with customers and doing presentations. Lots of international experiences always a plus as well as travel. Basically anything that shows that you are a strong contributor in your company and that you are appreciated and use as a valuable resource.

Yup so I have worked full time only in India. I do make a ton of presentations (including some for board meetings) and interact with consultants for regulatory work but I unfortunately do not get the opportunity to travel often or to work with customers.

I did have research assistantships and internships in the US as well.

I would much more vouch for HEC than IE if you have a choice.

Overall a very active and great profile. You will definitely stand out from among your peers. If you have international experience,INSEAD is a good consideration as well. They do seem to emphasize international experience. But your scores and experience are competitive esp for Jan intake.

PS. You don’t need to list or include your high school grades. Only ISB takes this into consideration. All western schools don’t care what you did in high school. 😇

Hello!

I second @bb on his comments. You have a very good profile and a good GRE score to cross the basic entry hurdles. Make sure to present your profile in a manner that makes your experience, achievements and your purpose of MBA stand out among peers.
As rightly said by BB, you should emphasize on presenting your International experience. Universities value this even if they don't mention it explicitly on their websites.

With respect to the colleges, I would definitely encourage you for HEC, INSEAD, LBS and also IESE. Remember that if you are to get into consulting, the brand name does carry some weightage alongside your skillset.

Feel free to reach out - I would be happy to consult and help you with your applications if you please, or even have a detailed chat in this regard.
