I am an Indian male mechanical engineer. Worked for 8+ years in Govt PSU in retail operations across all sectors ( Logistics/Maintenance/HSSE). Top 5 of my class in undergrad. Took GATE(2015) and got AIR - 174. Took GMAT in 2023 and got 750(V42/Q49). Done lots of extra curriculars in corporate like debates and quiz. Participated in many community work and teaching classes in nearby villages. What are my chances in M7?

Will need additional details to evaluate your fit. Just applying solely to Stanford GBS can be risky, best to apply to a portfolio of schools that will be a good fit for your profile and can do justice to your career aspirations.

Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) is one of the most competitive MBA programs in the world, and they consider various factors when evaluating applicants. Being an Indian male, you belong to a competitive applicant pool. Diversity in the student body is essential, so your background may add to the overall class diversity. Your GMAT or GRE scores will be crucial. Stanford GSB typically has a high GMAT/GRE score average. To be competitive, you should aim for a score in the upper percentiles.

A GPA of 3.44 is slightly below the average GPA for admitted students at Stanford GSB. However, it's important to note that GPA is just one part of the application, and Stanford places significant emphasis on the holistic assessment.

Your pre-MBA industry in retail and the post-MBA goal of switching to consulting may be viewed positively, as it indicates a clear career transition and the potential to bring a unique perspective to the class. Additionally, having eight years of work experience can be an advantage, as Stanford values applicants with substantial experience.

Strong letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your abilities and potential are essential. Your essays and interview performance play a significant role in the admissions process. Stanford is interested in understanding your personal and professional journey, as well as your motivations and contributions to the MBA program.

Any leadership roles or significant extracurricular involvement can boost your application.

Highlight how your background and experiences contribute to the diversity and inclusivity of the Stanford GSB community.

Clearly articulate your career goals, how an MBA from Stanford GSB will help you achieve them, and how you intend to contribute to the Stanford community. Seek guidance from current students or alumni of the program. They can provide valuable insights and potentially help you with the application process.

Overall, while your GPA is slightly below the average, other aspects of your application such as work experience, goals, and your unique background can compensate for this. To strengthen your application, focus on achieving a competitive GMAT/GRE score, crafting compelling essays, and ensuring that your letters of recommendation and interview performance showcase your potential and fit for the program. Additionally, highlighting your contributions to diversity and inclusion can also make a positive impact on your application. Stanford GSB values diversity, leadership, and innovation, so make sure your application reflects these qualities. Good luck!
