Just finished the GMAT focus and want to know if i should retake.
Currently in MBB and will be a sponsored student
Hello, wanted to get your thoughts on whether i should retake the gmat or not.
From African country (dont think im over-represented)
Graduated from engineering at top local uni
GPA: 3.88/ 4
GMAT FE: 615 (equivalent to 650-680 normal)
4 YOE
1 year botique consulting
3 Years at MBB (got promoted from BA to sr. Associate)
Mainly targeting europe and focusing on LBS and Insead only. Will be sponsored so not gunning for scholarships
In my cold mock i got 625 with verbal at 99 percentile and quant at 35. I improved to getting 645 three times and once 665.
The official exam i got 85 percentile verbal which decreased my overall score
I prefer to move on from the GMAT but am open to retaking if needed
Given your strong profile, it is advisable to retake the GMAT. Although your GMAT Focus score is below the average for LBS and INSEAD, your high GPA, strong work experience, and sponsorship are significant strengths.
Since your practice scores indicate potential for improvement (645-665), aiming for at least 700 will substantially strengthen your application. Retaking the GMAT aligns better with the averages of these top programs and will bolster your already strong profile, making you a more competitive candidate for your target schools.

Just to confirm, the 615 is Gmat focus (equivalent to 650-680 in the normal)
i was getting 645 and 665 in the GMAT FE (equivalent to 700 to 720)
I would be aiming to get 665 maximum and would be more than happy for a 645 FE score. Raising the point because i feel the "aiming for at least 700" is valid for the GMAT 10th edition not the FE.
Does the above clarification change your recommendation?
Your target GMAT FE scores of 645-665 are ambitious and achievable. Given your performance, I believe you are well-positioned to reach your goal.
While I previously mentioned aiming for a 700 on the traditional GMAT, this was based on the assumption that you were referring to the conventional GMAT. With your clarification, your target scores are equivalent to the highly competitive 700-720 range on the traditional GMAT.
Given your impressive GMAT FE scores, equivalent to highly competitive traditional GMAT scores, your primary focus should remain to solidify your core quant and verbal skills, mastering the GMAT FE format, and building test-taking endurance.
Would you like to discuss specific areas where you need improvement, or do you have any questions about your study plan?
knowing that the 615 is FE (= 650-680 traditional), you think just applying with them is OK given european schools place less importance on the GMAT?
Given your current scores and the understanding that European schools often place less emphasis on the GMAT than US schools, retaking the GMAT FE with a target score of 645-665 is a reasonable strategy. These scores are highly competitive and align with your previous performance. Deciding whether to retake the GMAT FE requires careful consideration of several key factors. While a target score of 645-665 is ambitious and achievable, evaluating your specific circumstances is essential.
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, a 615 score is actually decent, considering it translates to roughly a 670-680 on the classic GMAT. That puts you in the ballpark for top European programs like LBS and INSEAD, although their average GMAT scores are typically around 700.
The good news is that your application has a lot more going for it than just a test score. Your 3.88 GPA is fantastic, and coming from a top engineering program with a successful jump to MBB consulting really speaks to your intelligence and drive. Plus, being a sponsored student means the schools can focus on your potential rather than finances.
Both LBS and INSEAD love students who bring a global perspective. If you've had any international work experience or projects, be sure to highlight those in your application. It shows you're adaptable and comfortable in different cultures.
Numbers talk! Quantify the impact you've made at your consulting gigs. Did you save a client a ton of money? Lead a project to a smashing success? Showcase those specific examples to make your leadership and problem-solving skills shine.
Look, with a strong application that emphasizes your strengths and international outlook your GMAT shouldn't hold you back.
Honestly, to give you the best possible advice and help you craft a killer application, I'd love to talk in more detail.
