Having worked for 7 years as a litigation solicitor (5 of which have been in London), specialising in civil fraud, if accepted I will be attending business school at one of the institutes named above in order to transition from law to business. Whilst I have not completely decided on the direction I want to take once I have completed my MBA, my focus is largely on entrepreneurship and finance, preferably to transition into a venture capital position, or to start my own business. Having lived in London for 5 years, my preference is either to stay in the UK at either Oxford, Cambridge or LBS, or to move to Barcelona to study at IESE.

Hi Leccy
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your background as a litigation solicitor is pretty impressive, especially with 5 years in London handling civil fraud cases, you’re well-positioned for a successful transition into business and finance.

Your list of schools like Wharton, LBS, and IESE makes perfect sense, as these programs can provide the entrepreneurial and venture capital focus, you're looking for from an MBA. Plus, your goal to move into venture capital or launch your own business post-MBA is exciting and aligns well with the strengths of these schools. Also, a 685 GMAT is strong for the programs you are targeting. What is your GPA?

It will also be crucial for you to present compelling essays along with strong LORs, who are you planning your recommendations from? Since you are planning to apply in R2, I assume you have already started working on your essays.

Hey @Leccy ,

Your profile with a total 7 years of experience as a litigation solicitor, including 5 years in London specializing in civil fraud, presents a strong professional background. Transitioning from law to business, specifically in venture capital or entrepreneurship, is a strategic move that can add a unique dimension to your MBA application. Talking about your GMAT score, 685 is great. Since your legal background is unique, it can be worked upon and act as a differentiator too. Your essays and interviews will play a critical role in communicating why an MBA makes sense for your career trajectory and how your skills as a solicitor translate to business, especially in venture capital. You should have clear career goals, being more specific about what aspect of venture capital you want to focus on, like tech/healthcare.

Given your background, you might consider schools like INSEAD or ESADE (safety schools), which have strong finance and entrepreneurship programs and would still offer access to excellent VC networks. Focus on leveraging your legal expertise and entrepreneurial ambitions in your application materials to set yourself apart. What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more details about your academics, work experience, leadership roles, challenges faced, achievements, impact, post- MBA goals and extracurriculars to assess your chances better and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Cheers!
