Hi ssinghal092
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, seven years of experience along with a 695 FE score looks strong. Your Big4 experience in IT Audit and Assurance will also add value to your profile. However, transitioning to management consulting, especially aiming for MBB, requires a really compelling narrative.

You're targeting a broad range of top-tier B-schools. Each of these schools has its own focus. Like HEC Paris emphasizes leadership. While adcoms at LBS usually look for additional certifications. INSEAD on the other hand has an intense one-year program. Yale focusses on social impact.

I have a few questions,
1. Given your goal of reaching MBB, how do you plan to demonstrate your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills that these firms value?
2. How do you plan to demonstrate the adcoms at these schools that your IT Audit experience translates into consulting success? Plus, how will you clearly articulate why each school's specific strengths aligns with your long-term goals, especially considering the diverse locations of the schools you are targeting.

Thank you for your response, Priyanka. I truly appreciate it, especially the thought-provoking questions you have asked. I believe I know the answer but need to articulate it better.

Hi! Switching from IT Audit and Assurance to management consulting is no easy task. MBBs have no interest in hiring audit folks from these top schools so your recruitment strategy has to be very targeted. Hope you have deeply researched your transition plan and are not counting only on the schools to make that happen, if so then you would be a less attractive recruit atleast to the top programs you apply to. Feel free to speak

Hello Aanchal. Thank you for your response.

I have noticed some of my colleagues transitioning to management and strategy consulting roles in MBB firms after their MBAs. Having prior work experience from the Big4s, along with strong analytical skills, consulting firms seem to prefer MBA graduates with IT audit experience for projects related to IT strategy, risk management, and compliance.

I might not have the full picture, so I would appreciate your insights based on your experience with other MBA candidates with similar profiles.

I reinforce the concerns that stem from an audit background. The domain has exit barriers (as personally seen for multiple friends and colleagues across generations). The field also tends to condition one's thinking, which makes it difficult to break away from. On the premise that you are clear and sure on 'why consulting?', you will need to provide evidence of specific consulting skills in your pre-MBA experience.

Hi @IcanDoIt23 , you’ve got 7 years of Big 4 experience in IT Audit and Assurance, that’s a good launchpad for consulting. Your GMAT Focus score of 695? Nice! But let’s be real, breaking into consulting isn’t just about numbers. Your engineering background (Tier 2 college, CGPA 8.3/10) is good, but what’ll really make you stand out is how you own your leadership, impact, and client-facing experience. Start thinking about the big wins, leading teams, driving strategic decisions, and making real impact, because that’s what consulting firms (and MBA adcoms) love.

For Tuck, Fuqua, and ISB, your teamwork-heavy Big 4 experience is a win. But for INSEAD, LBS, and HEC, you’ll want to crank up the international exposure, cross-border projects, or global collaboration stories. Yale and Ross? They’ll love a crisp, compelling "why consulting" story with a strong impact-driven angle.

With Round 1 2026 in sight, you’ve got time to level up your leadership profile, sharpen your consulting narrative, and lock in stellar recommendations from senior leaders who can vouch for your strategy chops. If you want to deep dive into positioning and application strategy, let’s chat, feel free to book a profile evaluation call.
