Looking to go into consulting in Asia in the long-term (am Asian). Location agnostic for the short-term. I know that INSEAD seems to be the obvious choice here, but I looked through the 2024 employment reports, and it seems it wasn't so good for INSEAD. By contrast, LBS employment report for 2024 was very good. I know that with an MBA in either school, I will have the opportunity to work in consulting. Just wanted help in deciding school. That said, INSEAD is a consulting powerhouse, and the Asian campus will surely help me network in the industry and region, which is also quite valuable.
Still awaiting scholarship decisions from both, but that may also be a big factor, if one offers significantly lower cost.
Career-wise, the LBS visa will also allow me the flexibility to work in the UK in the short-term which is also pretty enticing, while INSEAD does not offer such flexibility. I am admitted to the SG campus - but I have also been reading that jobs in SG may be harder to come by for an international.
Another decision point for me may be where I am likely to have more fun - LBS or INSEAD? This is the first break from work I will be taking in 7 years.
You’ve got 7 years of experience in energy, which makes you a great fit for both programs. Consulting is very doable from either, but the decision really comes down to short-term flexibility vs. long-term regional fit.
If your goal is to be in Asia long-term, INSEAD (Singapore) is still the better strategic choice. It’s a consulting powerhouse, and the SG campus gives you easier access to Asia-based recruiters and networking. The downside is SG’s job market is getting tighter for internationals, and there’s no post-study visa to fall back on.
LBS, on the other hand, gives you more breathing room. The 2-year UK post-study work visa is a real advantage if you want optionality in the short term. The employment report for 2024 was very strong, and the brand carries just as much weight globally. From a “student experience” perspective too, LBS tends to be more social and dynamic given the city and program length.
Unless one school offers a major scholarship difference, I’d lean toward INSEAD if Asia is your focus post-MBA. But if you want global consulting exposure first, and are open to working in the UK short-term, LBS offers more flexibility.
Let me know if you want to talk this through as I’ve worked with many candidates in similar shoes.
