I completed my undergraduate from a Tier 2 University with 82.30% in Bachelor's of Business Administration in July 2022. After finishing my college, I went on to work for around 5 months and left the job to prepare for a civil service government exam. During that time, I also did volunteer work in a couple of NGOs, and now, I'm planning to take the GMAT Focus Exam within the next 2- 3 months and apply to top universities around the world. My goal is to get my masters in a Master's in Management or a Master's in Finance course from a top-tier university so I could go on and work in a professional setting where I see myself growing over the years to be in a Top Management Position in a well-renowned global company.

While enrolling in a masters program is a perfectly valid option, you can also get back to work and do an MBA later after acquiring 3-4 years of work experience. Many applicants who take career breaks for UPSC follow this path.
However, if you are more keen on an MIM or MiF, then get going with your GMAT prep and aim for a score above 675..

Thanks for sharing your profile @Prakhar Dwivedi! Your academic record from a Tier 2 Indian university with an 82.3% GPA is good. Schools like ESCP, ESMT, Rotterdam, and IE look like realistic targets, while top programs like HEC Paris and LBS will require a stronger GMAT and standout application elements.

Since you haven’t taken the GMAT yet, aim for 665+ to be competitive, and ideally 685+ for selective finance programs. Your 5 months of work experience, combined with time spent preparing for civil service exams and volunteering, can be positioned well if you highlight personal growth and transferable skills.

Your goal to move into finance and investment management is achievable but will need a clear plan. Consider gaining relevant certifications like CFA Level 1 or finance internships to strengthen your profile.

Apply early to maximize chances. Meanwhile, work on GMAT prep, clarify your career goals, and build a compelling story connecting your past experiences with your finance ambitions.

Some quick questions that you should focus on: Which finance roles or firms are you targeting? Have you started any finance-related studies or certifications? Are you open to working in Europe post-degree or planning to return to India? Is this Master’s your final goal, or do you plan to pursue an MBA later? With focused effort, you have a good foundation to succeed. If you'd like, feel free to reach out. Good luck!

Hello,

You have an unconventional but workable profile for MiM/MiF programs, especially in Europe. Your BBA and GPA are serviceable, but your minimal work experience and gap in civil services need to be addressed with a strong GMAT Focus score (645+), relevant finance exposure, or CFA coursework.

Target programs like ESSEC, ESADE, IE, and Bocconi, where flexibility is higher. INSEAD and LBS are stretch targets, only viable if you build a compelling narrative connecting your academic background, NGO work, and pivot to investment management. Act quickly to build finance credentials before R1 deadlines.
