Generally speaking, many schools have a 1-year deferral policy.

fwiw,

They have a policy, but they only extend it for extenuating circumstances. It will be very difficult. Maybe you can offer to drop a hefty deposit to secure the seat for the following year?

Hi everyone,

I was accepted in a M7 university but unfortunatley I faced a problem.

Do you know if it is possible to defer my acceptance for 1 year?

thank you.

regards.

What school and what problem...otherwise it doesn't exist.

I believe most of them actually require an additional deposit anyways so offering wont do much. I think this year it may be tougher than in years past. Applications are going to be up again this year so they know they will have plenty of candidates to choose from. I think you are going to need some major medical issue either personally or someone in your immediate family. Or you are going to have to show significant financial hardship...I know one person I have talked to has considered pursuing one due to their not being able to sell their house (horrible market I guess and lost a bunch of equity already).

How likely do you think it would be for a school to give you a deferment for economic hardship? What if you simply couldn't afford to move to the school, get an apartment there, then pay tuition on top of that (even with financial aid). Will schools be sympathetic, or wonder why the hell you didn't take all of that into account before applying?

Side note...I moved from LA to NYC to attend law school. I had to borrow over $10k from my dad to get there...otherwise I would have ben SOL. Huge security deposit + first months rent on a tiny little dirty manhattan apartment, airfare, hotel, etc. Definitely take all those costs into consideration before you move across the country.

Probably wont be much sympathy for that but they may have some if you would have to pay 3k worth of a mortgage and taxes on top of expenses with school. Most people have those things to deal with but with the horrible real estate market they may be willing to deal with some folks.
