Hi,
godfather47,
Thank you for your post!
First, I would like to say your profile looks quite good on the surface, and till now, you did maintain a stellar overall GPA. However, to strengthen your academic front, I suggest you add more about your overall statistics and give brief information about any additional courses, certifications, and academic accolades to back your profile. Moreover, if you could back a 740 in your GMAT, that would be great as the deferred MBA programs are highly competitive, especially when you're targeting top schools like Columbia, Kellogg, and Wharton.
Coming to your work experience, for deferred programs, the adcoms are primarily concerned about the diversity of experience and learning that the candidate has accumulated at an undergraduate level. Hence I would suggest you highlight the roles & responsibilities you had as a Startup Founder and back them up with substantial examples of excellence in the field, decision-making, analytical skills, and finally, the impact that you have had during your internship, which leads to the growth and development of the organization. For further understanding of the criteria for deferred MBA, I suggest you read an article on
what business schools look in the candidate for deferred MBA programs. About your ECAs, you need to add some! Even some hobbies will do as all these will help you explore new horizons to start an interesting conversation with the adcom!
Overall, you have a decent profile; however top B-Schools, especially for deferred MBA programs, aspire to create future leaders, so the potential must be visible in their students already! Since you are targeting
top deferred programs, it's crucial to interlink your profile with the school values and even broaden your target list to include other top schools like MIT, Booth, etc.
We have recently helped an applicant to get into Wharton & Columbia. Furthermore, you have to be absolutely clear about why you wanna pursue an MBA and be clear on how an MBA from your target school will help you reach your goals & aspirations. If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to deferred MBA programs; feel free to
book a free session with us at your convenience.

Hi, I'm a final year undergrad student and I'm planning to apply to some deferred MBA programs this year.
Profile:
Indian, 1st generation college
Academics:
GPA - 9.53/10 (Top 5%)
Major - Finance & Investments
Target School, Few Ranks in National Level Exams
Yet to take GMAT (Expecting ~ 740)
Experience:
Startup Founder - (1.5 years)
Very small team - Niche market - Good Revenue - Now Shut (Looking at new opportunities)
Founder's Office Intern - Strategy & Operations , High growth startup
Leadership:
Not a lot of leadership positions - College E-cell member, High school House captain
As per my current profile - what should be my realistic chances of getting into a deferred MBA - (Target- Columbia, Kellogg, Wharton)
Looking to further build my profile for the program - any recommendations for the same like where am I lacking or what should I look into?
Thanks!
