Dejected with MGMAT verbal performance

Question

I have only 3weeks to take the GMAT. And I have a problem which I am unable to solve. And it is leaving me confused.

I have given 5 MGMATs. My verbal scores go like this 35, 34, 38, 35, 38. And my hit rates in percentages for the various sections are 
RC CR SC
50 64 53 
67 57 60 
50 79 60 
75 64 60 
58 57 60 

However on the OG 10 my hit rate averages around 80% on SC with min being 60% and the max 95%. This is on sets of 20 questions each.

For CR the average is 72% with min being 60% and max being 85%.
I have not done any RC practice.

I haven't given any GMATPrep yet. I am confused. Why do I suck at SC and CR on the tests? Any insights will be appreciated.

Remember the level of question you get plays a huge part. It's not just how many you get right. It's what questions you get right.

I understand that level of difficulty plays a huge part. But the data that I have is for the complete OG10. Now that constitutes questions of varying difficulty too.

I found the Qs in the OG to be as a whole easier than those found in the MGMAT and GMAT Prep tests. That's not to say that the Qs in the OG are nto representative but if you focus on the tons of easy and medium Qs in the OG you may get a different feel for the test compared with taking a CAT. Especially if you are doing well and are in the the 650-700 range...compare your performance on the hard OG problems to your CATs. Also remember the scores are scaled e.g. I missed 6 questions on MGMAT - 51 V, missed 6 on GMAT Prep 1 - 46...

A few questions:

Are you doing OG11? If so, they are ordered by difficulty level. The later ones are harder.

Are you following Manhattan RC/CR/SC books to do the OG11? If not, they're helpful, so you should try it out.

kryzak, I am also doing OG 11 and have found that there is a huge overlap of questions with OG 10, especially in SC. I am following Manhattan SC and PowerScore CR. 

Also, I have noticed that in case of SC, review of errors doesn't seem to help in assessing progress as I seem to have memorised the answers.

sometimes if you don't do the SC questions for a few weeks and come back to it, you'll make the same mistakes if you don't fully understand the rule that you need to apply. 

OG11 and OG10 should have overlaps I believe, so that's normal. 

It's really about learning not to NOTICE the errors they introduce into a sentence, and then applying your knowledge of good grammar to pick the right answer. By doing lots of questions, learning what "correct" grammar looks like, and reviewing your mistakes, you should be able to do that very well.
