Hi Arun,

Thanks for the free video series - I have already watched the first 2 videos, they are very informative and helpful. Awaiting to unlock the next videos.
I am actually looking to pursue an MBA, but I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you will be able to help me with.

1. How important is answering the GMAT in 2021 to pursue an MBA?
2. Is there a limit to taking GMAT attempts per year, also what would be the gap between 2 attempts?
3. What strategies, tips or hacks would you recommend if I aim to score a 740 on the GMAT?
4. What is the right time to write the GMAT for ISB 2021 admission? Can you help me with the admission procedure of ISB?

Thank you in advance, looking forward to your response. I have watched a couple of your videos on Youtube and they seem very informative for MBA aspirants like me. Additionally, if there are any references you can point me to for study material, resource information, etc., please let me know.

Thanks,
Ellyna

Hi Arun!
I went through this and most of the Youtube Videos posted and they are very informative.

I have however a few questions and would be glad if you would be able to help me on it.
I am going to take my GMAT for the first time but I am fairly decent at Math.
However DS questions are a knockout. English anyways is a weak link. So, how long due you think I would need, given I can afford 3 hours of study every day.
Also, I wanted to know, during the years of Pandemic, I feel markets would take an upward curve in around 1.5-2yrs(by the time i would finish my MBA). So,I want to anyhow clear the paper in 2021 first half. Is it possible to score 700+ in my very first attempt?
I look ahead for your response !

Thank You

I also follow your YouTube channel and I must say that you've got some great content. Since I am looking to apply for ISB, the video on How to get into ISB has helped me a lot. :)

I would like to know if you have a full package (Prep+Application) services.

Hi Arun

You are one of the best trainers I have seen.

It would be great if you can give clarity on a couple of things,

Can you suggest few strategies for a retaker who is aiming for a 700?

Also, Can you give any tips to get into top B-Schools?

Thank you

Hi Arun,

I am planning to take the GMAT in 2021.
I went through the first 2 videos of the Demystify the GMAT Video Series and honestly, I feel a lot more confident. I just feel that I got the right kind of information at the perfect time.
But I am still a little confused about how to start my GMAT prep. How do I structure my prep?
Will you be able to help me with that?
Also, I am targeting top US B-schools. With the COVID pandemic around, I would like to know my chance of getting into B-schools in the US.
I want to apply in Round 3. Do you think that is possible given the short time I have?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Hey Arun,

Hope you are staying positive & testing negative :)

I’ve just now started with my GMAT prep & I do have a couple of questions so I was hoping if you could help me out by answering them. Just to give you context, I’ve around 3.5 years of experience in the Digital Marketing domain & have worked very closely with a couple of corporates & startups throughout my career. Talking about my educational background, I’ve graduated in Computer Applications from IP University. Earlier, I didn’t have any plans of doing an MBA or an equivalent degree, but now during the COVID-19 pandemic, I realized that higher studies are critical for me if I want to take on a leadership role in the near future. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

As mentioned above, I’m in a very initial stage of my prep so honestly, I’m facing a lot of issues in structuring my prep.
> I’m aiming to score a 760 in my GMAT. Is it an unconventional thing for a student like me who has just started off with his prep?
> I’m targeting top US & UK B-schools & want to apply in the upcoming round (I suppose R3 as R2 deadlines are almost up according to my research). Do you think it’s a wise move given the short time I’ve?

TBH, I was a bit skeptical to post my queries like this on a forum, but then I thought that if I want to ace the GMAT given the short time I’ve then, I’ll have to be open about it & discuss it with a GMAT & MBA mentor. So I gathered a lot of confidence & posted my queries here. I understand that my questions might seem silly as I have just started with my research. But it would be great if you could address all of them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Arun!
Thank you for making the great videos! I have just finished my 3-year graduation program (2020), and am working for a family consulting firm in the Human Resources domain. I am interested in doing an MBA in one of the top schools globally in Asia/North America. What would your advice be for the number of years of work experience I need to have before I make my applications? Is 2021 the right time to begin my GMAT prep or later on?

I await your kind response.

Hi Arun!

First of all, this looks like a very interesting program so thanks for sharing it with us here.

I had a couple of questions pertaining to my interest in doing an MBA & was hoping you could help me with them. To give you some context, I have about 4 years of experience in the digital marketing domain & have worked closely with a lot of different teams & verticals throughout my career. While I'm just a graduate in engineering at the moment, I have had plans of doing an MBA or an equivalent degree for a while now.

I'm sure an MBA will help open better career & growth opportunities for me, but I don't quite know how to go about it. So, it would be great if you could advise me on the below points:

1. What is your opinion on the long MiM vs MBA debate?
2. Do you think an online MBA is valued the same as an on-campus one?
3. What do you think is a good target score for a person looking to get into a decent MBA program?

I understand that my questions might seem silly as I have just started my research. But it would be great if you could answer them, nonetheless.

Cheers!

Thanks for asking them - the silliest question is the one that is never asked. So thanks for asking :)

1. What is your opinion on the long MiM vs MBA debate?

>> TL;DR response: MIM for <2 years exp and MBA > 2 years experience

Of course I am generalizing here but if you have lower experience then an MIM degree may give you the knowledge, place you in a safe setting with other fresh graduates, and provide career placement in accordance with your experience.

An MBA on the other hand is slightly more expensive because those 3 letters have a certain "brand equity". You will also be in a slightly more experienced cohort - all wanting more than an entry-level management job.

2. Do you think an online MBA is valued the same as an on-campus one?

>> TL;DR response: No for the same reasons you don't have an "online" Kindergarten.

Think of it this way: you don't just want just knowledge.

You want perspective. You want network. You want face time.

In short: you want the experience that only a top program can provide.

3. What do you think is a good target score for a person looking to get into a decent MBA program?

>> TL;DR response: As high as possible!

Really - what's this about people asking for "target scores"? :)

I would say - why not aim for 800?

The point is when you start your GMAT prep journey you will realize that everyone has a different range.

So it would be perfectly okay for you to score as much as you can - and then figure out how to pick the right set of schools

AND

try to showcase your profile in the best possible manner.

Hope this clarifies your queries,

Arun

Hi Arun,

I have been following your YouTube channel for quite some time now. And I must say that you've got some great content there.

I am just getting started with my GMAT prep. :)

Thanks - I plan to have more videos put out in 2021 so keep watching! :)

Will it be possible for me to connect with you to discuss my MBA plans?

I am looking to apply to ISB here. I would like to get a few suggestions on the B-schools abroad that I can target.

Thank you,
Racheal Jane

1. You can DM here or mail arunj AT crackverbal DOT com

2. I am happy to help but I would suggest you focus on getting your GMAT scores first as everything else will fall in place once you get a decent score.

3. After you start your prep you can continue with your MBA application process. As part of our program at CrackVerbal - we also help students in things like (a) improving your profile (b) selecting the right school (c) picking the correct post MBA career path (d) creating a schedule for applying in 2021.

Hope this clarifies!

Hi Arun,

Thanks for the free video series - I have already watched the first 2 videos, they are very informative and helpful. Awaiting to unlock the next videos.

Thanks Ellyna - I am glad you found it useful :)

My answer to your questions below:

1. How important is answering the GMAT in 2021 to pursue an MBA?

>> It is a kinda big deal. I mean everything else in your application is subjective.

Think about it: your essays, your reco letters, and even your undergrad marks (who do we compare it with?)

But the one thing that is an absolute truth is your nice juicy 3-digit GMAT score.

2. Is there a limit to taking GMAT attempts per year, also what would be the gap between 2 attempts?

>> Right now - don't even worry about all these details.

For 2 reasons:

a) You can find all this info on mba.com (more specifically here: https://www.mba.com/frequently-asked-qu ... m-policies)

b) Taking the GMAT is like a root canal operation - you want to do it once. You want to do it right.

So as you start preparing for the test - give it your best shot in the first (& hopefully only) attempt.

3. What strategies, tips or hacks would you recommend if I aim to score a 740 on the GMAT?

>> A 740 means you need a Q50 (86th %ile) and V40 (90th %ile).

Forget for a minute this is the GMAT - think of it as ANY test in which you need to be in the top 10-15%ile for both Quant and Verbal.

At this point I would not worry too much - but just a piece of advice: GMAT is not a bag of tricks.

You need to focus on your concepts - how those get tested on the GMAT - and strategizing your time (super important).

4. What is the right time to write the GMAT for ISB 2021 admission? Can you help me with the admission procedure of ISB?

>> So you need to remember the following steps and you should be sorted:

Step 1: Take the GMAT (May-June)

Step 2: Fill in the online application and upload relevant details on isb.edu (July)

Step 3: Answer the essay questions and get your recommendation letters, (Aug-Sep)

Step 4: Hit the submit button and wait for an interview call (Sep-Oct)

Step 5: Attend the interview (Oct)

Step 6: Wait for the result: Admit / Reject / Waitlist (Nov)

Step 7: Plan for New year party based on the result in step #6 :)

Hope this helps,

Arun

> I'm aiming to score a 760 in my GMAT. Is it an unconventional thing for a student like me who has just started off with his prep?

Thanks for asking me! My answers below:

1) I know this sounds like a non-answer but really - it DEPENDS! :)

I have known people who have scored a 760 with under 2 weeks of prep

AND

I have known people who have struggled for months but failed to breach the 700 mark.

What you need to understand is that the correlation between the number of hours of prep and your eventual GMAT score isn't going to be a straight line.

You will have a different set of challenges at 550-600 and different ones at 600-700 and completely different ones at 700+.

So my advice would be to take a full-length test from mba.com and assess where you stand and then make a plan for the prep.

nishitme

> I'm targeting top US & UK B-schools & want to apply in the upcoming round (I suppose R3 as R2 deadlines are almost up according to my research). Do you think it's a wise move given the short time I've?

If you have not started your GMAT prep yet (and it is 2 weeks to the new year) then my advice is to have some cold beer and wait it out this year :)

This year has been particularly challenging to apply for various reasons (the Covid, the economy, the closing of the borders, etc).

I have given a short plan for applying to ISB this year somewhere else on this thread - use the same. template to plan 2021 :)

I hope this helps,

Arun

Thanks Varsha - I think you are just starting out and everything might seem overwhelming.

I would suggest you take out time to have a chat with someone in my team. You can reach out to them through the CrackVerbal website OR you can DM me your contact details and will have an expert reach out to you.

The reason I am saying this is because based on your questions I can imagine how you must be feeling i.e. lot of things you need to clarify and not enough space to type out the questions :)

Actually a lot of points so I am. just listing it down (in no order of priority or importance):

1. You are a fresh graduate - so you need to have some stellar work at the undergrad level. It could either be extracurriculars or outstanding academic performance (including research work) or internship/startup experience.

If you ended up just going to college and have only your marksheet as evidence then it is going to be hard to justify your application to a top program.

2. As far as experience is concerned - schools want QUALITY >> QUANTITY.

This means they will give you an admit if they see potential (even with lower experience).

But if you have a lot of experience following a same-$hit-different-day routine then it's not going to cut ice with the AdCom.

3. Is 2021 / 2022 / 2023 / <plug any year this decade> a good time to apply?

No year is a good year - it all depends on whether it is a good year FOR YOU.

Typically if you are starting straight out of college then waiting for a year might help because you will apply in 2021 for school starting in 2022

i.e you will already have 2 years of experience while joining the program.

4. All things being equal - starting early in the application process has a few advantages.

Early on in the career means you have a lower opportunity cost. So that is good.

It also means you don't have the encumbrance of being married (sorry to use it in a negative term - I value the institution - just that it is terrible to stay away from your spouse).

Also, you are young and nimble - you can easily fit into any entry-level management roles.

5. You might want to look at MIM programs and not just MBA programs.

I have given some differences in response to another post on this thread - you can check it out.

I hope this answers your queries :)
