Hi, and thanks for writing! Sorry to hear about Marshall and McCombs - I'm sure that was frustrating. I think UW Foster, ASU Cary, and UC Irvine make a lot of sense - I would also look at UC Davis. UCLA would definitely be a reach, but not out of question to apply if you can make a very strong case for why the program is a fit for you.
Regarding your goals - it's ok if they're commonly stated goals (like finance and consulting) the main thing is that you 1.) chart a clear path for yourself, making sure the connection to your past is clear and that you have ST and LT aspirations and 2.) showing the MOTIVATION behind these goals - this is what helps you own them and therefore, differentiate yourself.
Hope that helps a bit! Let me know of any other questions.

Hello,
I'm not sure what info you're able to see so I will briefly recap. 680 GMAT (40verbal, 44 quant), 3.1 overall, 3.3 last 90 major credits. History/Politics undergrad; enlisted military last 4 years. post-mba plan entrepreneurship.
I was just denied both Marshall and McCombs. Marshall was definitely 1st choice, if only because I want to stay in California/west coast. As for round 2, I'm kind of lost as to strategy. I'm not pursuing Sloan, but i'm wondering if I make any serious changes if Anderson may be within the realm of possibility. Other than that, i've reassessed and am now thinking UW Foster, ASU Carey, and UC Irvine. Irvine isn't a dream school in any sense but it keeps me in LA and its the best in this region besides USC/UCLA.
a serious option that i'm considering is just saying that I want to pursue finance or consulting. it seems like everyone else is going down one of those two roads and i'm curious if that may be something to think about.
Thank you
