We need to find whether the price of Energy has shown rise last year.
Statement 1 :
(1) If the price of energy rose last year, then the price of food would rise this year.
This is a conditional statement IF .... THEN ....
We can’t arrive to a concrete yes or no here.
So options A and D are out.
Statement 2 :
(2) The price of food rose this year.
This statement standalone provides no clues on whether energy price has risen last year or this year.
So option B is out of picture.
we are left with E and C. Let’s combine statement 1 and 2.
the price of food rose this yr. The part following then has been green now. There are two options for this scenario to occur.
a) the if energy prices rise last year—- > leading to (food price increase this year) stmt 2 . This gives a Yes here.
OR
b) the if energy prices last year has not increased ——-> but (prices of food price has increased this year ) statement 2 has occured due to some other reasons. This is a No here.
Ambigious prevails. Hence option E.
