Hi Fluidmosaic,

Since you're not planning to apply to Business School for at least a few years, you have some time to improve your overall application and try to 'offset' the low GPA. By taking some additional college courses (Statistics, Calculus) and scoring well, you could show the Business School Admissions Committees that you're serious about getting your MBA and can handle the academic 'side' of their Programs. Earning some dynamic, leadership-based Work Experience would also help. With a bit more research, you'll likely find that there are a number of MBA Programs that would fit your career goals/needs beyond the 4 that you named (which are all highly competitive).

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Basically the above, I got a 48Q but I thought I could bring a scientific calculator in. I have a 2.4/4.0 undergrad so I'm curious if bumping to say a 770 would have a meaningful effect on my application.

I figure I could also put in more work into SC since that was by far my worst verbal section.

Hey Fluidmosaic,

740 is a fantastic score -- just keep in context your overall application. As EMPOWERgmatRichC had stated, you have a few more years to improve your profile. You may not be the candidate who stands out with a 770+ score, but if you feel confident you can stand out in another way -- your background, your story, your career path -- then this should be a good-enough score for the target schools you want. If you have a clear story/path/reason for business school and can differentiate yourself based on your work experience, then you got a lot going for you.

Remember, optimize for your overall application profile - not just one local maxima.
