DIFF and Which is right
A)Alaska was part of Russia
AND
B)Alaska had been part of Russia
DIFF and Which is right
A)Dinosaurs were the biggest predators that dominated the terrestrial ecosystem for over 160 million years, first appearing approximately 230 million years ago.
And
B)Dinosaurs had been the biggest predators that dominated the terrestrial ecosystem for over 160 million years, first appearing approximately 230 million years ago.
DIFF and Which is right
A)Alaska was part of Russia
AND
B)Alaska had been part of Russia
DIFF and Which is right

And

I used to remember this rule very clearly, but has gone rusty with age. But I'll try...
Alaska was part of Russia --> Means Alsaka used to be part of Russia, but now it's not.
Alsaka had been part of Russia --> Means Alaska used to be part of Russia and it still is (in a past context)
Dinosaurs were .... --> Used to be the biggest predators but now are not
Dinosaurs had been .... --> Used to be the biggest, and still is (but in a past context)
Alaska was part of Russia --> Means Alsaka used to be part of Russia, but now it's not.
