Difference in Official Guide 11th edition & 13th edition

Question

Hi,

Please let me know what is the difference between 11th edition and the 13th edition of the Official guide. Is there only few questions added or a totally new question bank has been prepared. Actually I have the 11th edition. Please suggest what should I do?

Also I have the Verbal Review and the Math review - original edition and not the latest 1st edition.

You should get the OG13 edition -- there some question types that have been phased out or decreased in proportion. Between OG12-13 approximately 12% of the questions were removed and replaced with newer versions. The changes are subtle but over 2 editions, OG11 will not be representative of the exam so you're better off getting the OG13. In just 1 section for example, there are more "complete the argument" questions and "helps explain". in SC, idioms have gradually been phased out so that international students are not at as much a disadvantage for not knowing some of these idioms.

Verbal and math review books are fine -- at the minimum you should update to OG13 -- there's also the integrated reasoning section that is missing in older sections.

You won't necessarily bomb the exam if you stick with OG11 -- but if you're looking to max your score go for OG13. Read a review of the OG13 for more info.

Can we use OG 11 for practice along with OG13 ?

Hi manishkhare,

Much of the material in the OG11 is still relevant today, although some of the questions have been phased out (from the book and from the Official GMAT).

In the broader sense of your studies though, you will likely find that a 'book-heavy' study approach might limit your improvement. Most Test Takers get "stuck" at a certain scoring level because they're not training with computer-based resources (that can more properly simulate the physical and psychological aspects of Test Day).

Thanks for your reply .
I have been studying for two and a half months. I am looking forward to scoring 700 plus on GMAT . I gave GMAT prep1 around a month back and scored 660(Quant :48 Verbal:33). I had got 9 SC wrong ,hence the low score in verbal.Subsequently ,I have used Manhattan SC guide and Veritas SC videos for understanding sentence correction.I have been practicing SC on gmat club . 
I intend to use OG 11 as a question bank.

A 660 is a strong practice score; have you taken any FULL-LENGTH practice CATs since then? I ask because it sounds like you diagnosed one of your 'problem areas' and it would be interesting to see if your approach to 'fixing' the problem has worked. Taking FULL CATs at regular intervals is an important part of the study process (as opposed to taking lots of CATs in a compressed timeframe, which is often NOT beneficial).
